Do you love networking to advance your career? Is adulthood an exciting new challenge for which you feel fully prepared? Ugh. Please go away.

These casually drawn, perfectly on-point comics by the hugely popular young Brooklyn-based artist Sarah Andersen are for the rest of us. They document the wasting of entire beautiful weekends on the internet, the unbearable agony of holding hands on the street with a gorgeous guy, and dreaming all day of getting home and back into pajamas. In other words, the horrors and awkwardnesses of young modern life. Oh and they are totally not autobiographical. At all.

Adulthood Is a Myth presents many fan favorites plus dozens of all-new comics exclusive to this book. Like the work of fellow Millennial authors Allie Brosh, Grace Helbig, and Gemma Correll, Sarah's frankness on personal issues like body image, self-consciousness, introversion, relationships, and the frequency of bra-washing makes her comics highly relatable and deeply hilarious.
Sarah Andersen is a young cartoonist and illustrator who lives in Brooklyn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Relatable, hilarious, no bigger picture I loved seeing these comics when they first appeared online, and having a full collection of them was even better. The comics are so incredibly on point and funny. There's no overarching storyline or deeper meaning, which is exactly what someone picking up this book would be hoping for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So cute I love how these little comics make me feel less alone in this "adult" world. I found myself laughing out loud as I flipped through.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute and relatable I love the comics in this book! I always see these comics as memes on the internet. They’re great because they’re so relatable! This was a short book to flip through quickly, and I laughed many times. The third book in this series is coming out later in the month, so now I can’t wait to read it. I’m sure it’ll be just as funny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny! I don't think that there are any new comics in this book, so if you follow Sarah's Scribbles online, you've already seen them all. But I just loved being able to sit down and read through them, and it's nice to have something to put on my shelf. If you aren't familiar with these comics, this is a great introduction. They are sweet and funny and wonderfully relateable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Bit of a Let Down This book has been on my want-to-buy list since 201 and I JUST bought it and was crazy looking forward to it! It was so hyped and I was expecting stomach cramping up funny, but I thought it was kind of meh. It was funny, the illustrations added a lot, but the actual stories were honestly a bit of a bore. Still funny, but not really worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Brilliant Take on the Everyday Scenarios of Confusion This is a brilliant take on the everyday scenarios of confusion, concern, and not getting that important thing done. A fair bit of it is female humor, but I can appreciate the heart and the humor when it brings a genuine laugh out of me. This book has plenty of it. Look forward to reading the sequel. If anyone is looking for similar reading, I recommend Jenny Lawson's "Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir" and "Furiously Happy." Or as like to remember them as; the fascinating musings of a modern female blogger. Thanks for reading. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it Her description of depression is simultaneously hilarious and painfully, heartbreakingly accurate. I often get people who fail to understand depression to read her goldfish analogy. All in all, a hilarious and truthful read. Also, dogs <3

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love love love this! I got this as a gift, my mom, mother-in-law, friends, and myself can relate to this quirky character. It's one of my favorite comics. I also bought her second book "Big Mushy Happy Lump" (as good).
Date published: 2017-08-25
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute A cute little book. The animals are adorable. I laughed out loud at the unibrow comic, and I could relate to some of comics about budgeting, dating and body image. I found it harder to appreciate the recurring "I hate everybody" theme and some of the commentary on being an artist. I think most people with fb/internet are familiar with her style and know what to expect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing style but... The drawings and design of the planner is great. The only problem is that because of the texture of the pages, it smudges easily, and if you use a pencil it's too light to be seen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HILARIOUS I laughed so hard I cried. Don't read this in public, because you will not be able to stifle your laughter.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not for Me Look this was a cute and VERY quick read but it is hard for me to give it more than 2 stars. I know it is silly to pick on the art but...the art is very amateurish. I know. I know. That is part of its charm but I had to point it out. With her limited artistic abilities she does do a good job but we are not looking at the work of the next great artist. The other reason I can't go higher than 2 stars is that - although I related to a lot of the cartoons - I never LAUGHED at any of them. It would have been nice not to just nod and think "too true" but to actually laugh. Even though I only gave it two stars it was a fun (VERY) quick read.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for me This review does not reflect the book itself, just my opinion and interest in the book. I like this author's comics and real portrayals of what happened to her in her dysfunction and dysfunctional family. And I really feel for her situation and life. However, I just couldn't empathize with any of what I read, I don't like dogs and I was really disheartened by the situations. This book was just unfortunately not for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from There's a little Sarah in us all! Adulthood Is a Myth is a collection of one-page comics depicting Sarah's life as a millennial trying to make it in the adult world and it is HILARIOUS and all too true. I challenge anyone between the ages of 18-35 to go through the book and NOT find something that applies to them. There’s a little bit of Sarah in all of us, and I totally love it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the price I was kind of disappointed in this. I thought it would be a lot more like Introvert Doodles that came out late last year. I read this one in about 5-10 minutes, and it wasn't that funny. It was entertaining, but more in a smile and "blow a quick breath out your nose" laugh here and there kind of way. For the price I paid, I expected more.
Date published: 2017-03-15

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved this! Love these comics! I would go "me" with almost every one. If you're a fan of "Sarah's Scribbles" I recommend buying this/borrowing it from the library to support the artist's work. If you're a really huge fan, buy this so you can have your own copy on hand for whenever adulthood gets you down. Haha, I wouldn't mind if the artist drew a comic on escaping reality by reading her comic or a collection of them (like this book).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Ridiculous Graphic Novel Allie's depiction of depression was great and is the reason I found the book. I laughed a lot through her stories; my favs being The hot sauce debacle, and Lost in the woods. If you are like me and like to throw something fun and different in between your series and serious books, this is the perfect fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny and very, very real. I love Sarah Andersen's comics -- see them on Tumblr and Facebook all the time. It's real, it's funny, and it's absolutely adorable. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adulthood is a myth and we're all suckers for falling for it. This collection of "scribbles" (cutesy drawings, foreal) proves it in the most amusing way possible. It hits the right notes and makes you exclaim, "I KNEW IT!" or "THAT'S SO ME!" With the self-deprecating, aw-shucks kind of humour that is what makes Allie Brosh's Hyperbole and a Half and The Oatmeal's 5 Very Good Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth and Other Useful Guides, amongst others, so endearingly charming, "Adulthood is a Myth" is an instant winner that will turn your frown upside down in 20 minutes!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super funny! I love this book. Its very funny and I love how the art work is so crude but it still conveys the emotions. If you love this book you might want to check out her blog with the same name. I really like how this book isn't a compilation of her blog work, there are stories that are not on her blog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Funny And Surprisingly Deep Allie showcases the humor in both everyday events and in her time soul searching. I wouldn't say this is laugh out loud funny, but you will certainly get some chuckles and it will most definitely brighten your day!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A new fave! This book is hilarious, witty, charming, and just a fun read!! I will read it again, and again. I finished it in two days, and laughed so hard at some of the entries I couldn't speak! My only issue is that I wished instead of using terms like "Simple dog" and "Helper dog", that the author used either the names of her dogs, or more endearing terms for them. Maybe because I would have, but other than that....An excellent, excellent book!! Loved it!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! I absolutely loved this book. Allie Brosh is a genius at knowing how people think, especially on absurd topics. Made me laugh out loud and also empathized with her in the section called Depression. Can't wait to read her next book. Also loved her weird illustrations which only added to the book.
Date published: 2014-01-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Beautifully illustrated, indeed. More fun to read when it's as an e-book than as a blog, since there are extra bits, and you can zoom in and really see the artwork. Funny, entertaining, and definitely written by someone who has obviously dealt with depression. She makes depression more tolerable, in an "I've so been there, and I know what you're going through" kind of way, that is also completely hilarious at the same time. Well worth the read, and I'm not sad that I don't have it as a paper version, since this was the original format that I read her other work in anyway.

Thank you Allie Brosh for your wacky self and your masterful stick-figure drawings that have spawned countless internet memes for the ages!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love the simple dog ...and read those chapters, somewhat redacted, to the kiddo, who snorted in glee with me. Allie's description of depression is, as most of the internet knows by now, sheer genius for its insight and compassion. And she draws good dogs :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious and Touching This book was just as funny as I knew it would be - so funny I was crying. Not too many duplicate entries from the blog, and those that were are some of the best ones. The ones you always re-read. I loved it immensely. (Review also posted to goodreads)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic I have been her website for a long while and was excited when the book was released. Most books from bloggers are just the same cartoons but in a book. This book is amazing and contains new content. I laughed and I cried (yeah, that's right) If you are thinking of buying this book, buy it, it is worth every dime.
