Afghanistan: A Canadian Story Canadian Afghan Mission: 2001 – 2014

Canada’s largest overseas commitment is Joint Task Force Afghanistan, the formation comprising all Canadian forces personnel and assets deployed in Southwest Asia. Canada had one over-arching objective: to leave Afghanistan to Afghans in a country that is better governed, more peaceful and more secure.

The wonderful men and women you will meet within these pages worked tirelessly to make this happen. This is their story. The stories and images are arranged in a chronology that follows Canada’s engagement in Afghanistan. As such it will be a welcome and positive legacy for the CF members who served, for the families and friends of the fallen, for schools, and for the Canadian public.

The book is a large, hard cover title of 272 pages, organized in chapters by year and operation, to share with Canadians the stories, reflections and images produced by CF members and CF agencies such as Army News and Combat Camera.

Contributions from journalists who embedded with the mission will also be incorporated. Remember, net proceeds from book sales will go to the Edmonton Military Family Resources Centre, to be shared with military support services such as the Boomers Legacy Foundation, the Military Families Fund, the Soldier On Fund and Operation Dignity St Anne de Bellevue Veterans Hospital Foundation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canadians need to read this! I had heard early in the year (2014) about this book and was anxious to have a look. When it was finally published towards the end of the year, I asked Santa to please, if anything, to place this under the tree! He listened. So far this book is fantastic! The photography alone is well worth the investment. The stories make you appreciate the sacrifice that our young men and women endured during there tours in an area in the world where modern conveniences are non existent. This book captures in detail with words and imagery the stories of the people who serve our great country and the ones that we will not forget. This is our Canadian story.
