“A haunting story that seamlessly blends the hard-boiled twists of cyberpunk with the noir flavor of a Southern Gothic thriller. Gritty and compelling….Truly high octane stuff.”
—Marc Giller, author of Hammerjack

Bladerunner meets Jim Butcher in Afterlife, a thrilling urban fantasy noir adventure set in an alternate world where everyone gets nine lives. In the vein of J. D. Robb’s bestselling ‘In Death’ series, author Merrie Destefano blends a futuristic concept with gritty noir mystery for a riveting story of murder, conspiracy, and multiple-resurrections that will appeal equally to fantasy, science fiction, and mystery fans. Even paranormal romance lovers will find something to love in Destefano’s extraordinary Afterlife.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A promising debut Chaz is a Babysitter for Fresh Start, the family company and the only resurrection game in town. His job is to reintegrate the newly deceased into their new bodies and lives. You see, anyone can resurrect themselves nine times (and nine times only). They can start fresh new lives and leave the past behind. Chaz’ world is filled with One-Timers (those who will not resurrect themselves), Nine-Timers (those on their last chance) and everyone in between. What starts out as a routine baby sitting job turns into something quite different, with far reaching consequences for Chaz and his family. I really liked the premise behind this book--the desperate reach for immortality and the consequences of that reach. I mean, everyone wants a chance to live forever, don’t they? This novel explores that concept and presents a reasonable picture of how the world might look if resurrection was possible. I think this was another fine debut novel.
