One of fantasy’s finest next-generation storytellers continues to break new ground.

Michael J. Sullivan’s trailblazing career began with the breakout success of his Riyria series: full-bodied, spellbinding fantasy adventures whose imaginative scope and sympathetic characters won a devoted readership and comparisons to fantasy masters Brandon Sanderson, Scott Lynch, and J.R.R. Tolkien himself. Now Age of Myth inaugurates an original five-book series.

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever.

Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

Magic, fantasy, and mythology collide in Michael J. Sullivan’s Legends of the First Empire series:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It was great! Very much enjoyed the first three books of this series. Can't wait for the fourth! I haven't read the other series yet. I started with Age of Myth and had no issues feeling at home in Elan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Start to a New Series I’ve loved all of Michael’s fantasy books so I had to grab Age of Myth as well. The book is set 3000 years before Revelations but you don’t need to know anything about the other series to start Legends of the First Empire. Michael did not disappoint. I read Age of Myth in one evening and then went back and re-read it a week later. I wanted to read it more slowly to see if I could catch any hints that I had missed before. The only thing that I regret is that I read it too fast and now I’m waiting anxiously for Age of Swords to come out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless fantasy Michael J. Sullivan has put together an outstanding fantasy novel that grows from simple beginnings into a complex story that pits Rhune (man) vs Fhrey (elf) and sets to progress the world into a new era of change and war. Sullivan seems to have a knack for this type evolving story. It will be interesting to see how it goes even further as this series progresses. And Riyria fans need not be afraid, Sullivan has a new cast of characters that are both fun and have realistic backgrounds & ambitions. I wish I remembered more from the Riyria Revelations books, which I enjoyed immensely. It didn't hurt my enjoyment of this book but I think it would have added even more to this already great novel. I can't wait to get my hands on Age of Swords.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST READ For Fantasy Lovers! AGE OF MYTH reminded me of all the reasons I love Michael J. Sullivan's writing. From the very first page, the story was intriguing and exciting. As always, the characters are beyond fantastic. Raithe is an awesome hero, Persephone is a very strong woman, Malcolm is hilarious, and Arion is not a mage I'd want to mess with. The plot is engaging and changes enough that I was never bored. The action was intense and nail-biting, especially near the end. But my favourite part of the book (and it was hard to choose, trust me) was the history and mythology of the world. It's not like his previous novels, though it's set in the same universe– fans of Riyria will recognize certain names– thousands of years earlier. Just hearing the stories the characters would tell were fascinating. It's pure fantasy, and I was completely enveloped by the entire book. A must for all fantasy fans. Don't miss on this one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good Book for Fantasy Lovers If you're looking for a book to read while in between other series or interested in starting a new series while it's just being written this would be a good book to pick up. While the course of the book is fairly generic for the fantasy genre I would say that the characters are really well developed and fully thought out and I can't think of a single character that I didn't love (or loved to hate if that was how they were written). There's also enough hints at a grandeur story that this is building up to that's enough to make me anxious for the next book to be released.
