Aileen MacEwan has been given a second chance at life. Fresh out of rehab for drug and alcohol addiction, she travels to the Isle of Skye in Scotland, giving herself a month to figure out what to do with the rest of her life. Soon after her arrival, she learns everything her father told her before he passed away ten years ago was a lie and the dangers he fled Scotland to protect her from didn’t die along with him.

Scotland Police Constable Brodie MacEwan thought he knew what was best for his sister, but the more he learns of the life she led in Canada, the more he realizes how wrong he was. The only way he can make it up to her is to give her the one thing she’s never had - the love and protection of her family. He soon discovers that it’s not just the dangers lingering from their father’s past that threaten Ailey, but the ones from her own.

Alec Galbraith has been lost since a knee injury derailed his career as Scotland’s favourite footballer. He begins to find himself again when he sees Ailey sitting on a grassy knoll near the Fairy Pools with her sketchpad on her lap. When Ailey insists she wants nothing more than friendship, he decides he’ll have to be happy with that because having her in his life is as essential as breathing.
