Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A charming twist on a failed pest-control effort A sweet and beautifully illustrated book about a rat and a mongoose who live in a Hawaiian cane field and are best friend. Mongoose were brought in to Hawaii by sugar planters to control rats in the cane fields. Unfortunately, that didn't work out so well. Rats are nocturnal and mongooses are awake during the day. Very much in the style of Beatrix Potter, this book would be perfect to read to children. The vocabulary is more advanced than you'd find in most modern children's books, but I think that's a good thing.
