But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. A trickster and a rogue, Wednesday seems to know more about Shadow than Shadow does himself.

Life as Wednesday's bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined—it is a job that takes him on a dark and strange road trip and introduces him to a host of eccentric characters whose fates are mysteriously intertwined with his own.

Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Something Out of the Ordinary! I received this book as a gift and, being a classical mythology nerd, I was really excited to read this. What I got, however, was something I never expected! Although this book references different Gods, I was surprisingly pleased that it didn't focus only on Greek/Roman Gods. Instead, it has a wealth of information and Gods that I never learned about before. This is a new and different story, unlike anything else I have read. It is brilliantly researched and written. If you like an adventure that keeps you thinking along the way, this is the book for you!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome read! Finally read this classic by Mr. Gaiman. Despite its size, the book reads well with crisp dialogue and a pantheon of characters. The fate of old World Gods in the lands of America is a geat tale of myth, action and existentialism. Loved it.
