A moving romantic story about two German sisters Christine and Maria, who having survived World War II are searching for love and stability in their lives. After losing their beloved father during the war, they live with their mother, Anna-Marie in a small German town. All three women are struggling to make ends meet when the American soldiers arrive.

Although the American soldiers help the town economically, Anna-Marie warns her daughters to stay away from them. She doesn't want Christine and Maria to be ostracized by their community. Despite the warnings, the two sisters still continue to pursue the soldiers. Young German men were a scarcity in 1948. The sisters want desperately to leave war-torn Germany behind. One finds her true love, while the other sister finds betrayal. Will poetic justice win in the end?
