The #1 New York Times bestselling memoir of U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle, and the source for Clint Eastwood’s blockbuster movie which was nominated for six academy awards, including best picture.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. His fellow American warriors, whom he protected with deadly precision from rooftops and stealth positions during the Iraq War, called him “The Legend”; meanwhile, the enemy feared him so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle, who was tragically killed in 2013, writes honestly about the pain of war—including the deaths of two close SEAL teammates—and in moving first-person passages throughout, his wife, Taya, speaks openly about the strains of war on their family, as well as on Chris. Gripping and unforgettable, Kyle’s masterful account of his extraordinary battlefield experiences ranks as one of the great war memoirs of all time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing story This book is riveting - Kyle's honesty about some of his poorer decisions, the difficulties of being deployed on his family, and his exploits in war are all amazing. What was most interesting was reading it knowing the way in which Chris Kyle was killed. I feel such empathy for his family, but thank him and his wife for their story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The story behind the legend Very interesting story not written as a thriller but the story behind the man, and how he became the most famous sniper. I really enjoyed this book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A True Selfless Soul. This autobiography gives you a true insight on the mind and life of an American Soldier. The witty humor of Chris Kyle evens out the horror stories that are the war and leaving a family behind while one dedicates their life to protecting others. Not only was Chris Kyle a War Hero but this book also shows his beautifully kind soul.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from No sir, not for me. REALLY boring! unless you got some weird fetish for autobiography's then no, this book is lame. The army stuff is, "slow". You wont get any tear jerkering or heart pounding war stories.

Editorial Reviews

American Sniper is the inside story of what it’s like to be in war. A brave warrior and patriot, Chris Kyle writes frankly about the missions, personal challenges, and hard choices that are part of daily life of an elite SEAL Sniper. It’s a classic!”
