Remains our great satire of the darker face of modern history (Malcolm Bradbury)

Animal Farm has seen off all the opposition. It's as valid as today as it was fifty years ago (Ralph Steadman)

Présentation de l'éditeur

'It is the history of a revolution that went wrong-and of the excellent excuses that were forthcoming at every step for the perversion of the original doctrine,' wrote George Orwell for the first edition of ANIMAL FARM in 1945. His simple and tragicfable, telling of what happens when the animals drive out Mr Jones and attempt to run the farm themselves, has since become a world-famous classic of English prose.

'Surely the most important fictional satire to be written in twentieth-century Britain' Malcolm Bradbury

Includes Orwell's proposed preface that was discovered years after the first edition had been published, as well as his unique preface for the Ukrainian edition. Also contains explanatory footnotes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A dire warning on the eb and flow of society This book highlights well how gradual changes lead to big swings in society. I liked 1984 better ( also an Orwell book) but this one communicates the same message in 200 pages. This is easily a one day read and should be read by all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't i read this years ago! A true classic! Not sure why I hadn't read this one before. Probably a school assignment that I skirted through or paid someone to do the report for me...although written decade ago the message is still valid today. If not more so. A story that will be or should be read in every classroom around the world! And to think this was once a forbidden book...WOW

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Huh? Dictator, to communism, to dictator. Hmmm. I was expecting something more profound. Writing style was simple with occasional big words. Typical Orwell. It's a good book to be read in school for discussion. I like the ideas of the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Animal Farm Thoughtful book and still very relevant today. I enjoyed this read and the way the author similarises the animals' experiences and those of humanity over our existence.
