He performs his profane ceremony in a wooded Minneapolis park, anointing his victims, then setting the bodies ablaze. He has already claimed three lives, and he won’t stop there. Only this time there is a witness. But she isn’t talking.
Enter Kate Conlan, former FBI agent turned victim/witness advocate. Not even she can tell if the reluctant witness is a potential victim or something more troubling still. Her superiors are interested only because the latest victim may be the daughter of Peter Bondurant, an enigmatic billionaire. When Peter pulls strings, Special Agent John Quinn gets assigned to the case. But the FBI’s ace profiler of serial killers is the last person Kate wants to work with, not with their troubled history. Now she faces the most difficult role of her career—and her life. For she’s the only woman who has what it takes to stop the killer . . . and the one woman he wants next.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A decently paced thriller This wasn't a bad bit of thriller work - when women show up stabbed, mutilated, and then doused in gasoline and burned, the only witness is put into the care of a Witness/Victim's rights woman, Kate. Kate, who has suffered a familial loss years ago, and is trying to get past it, doesn't normally work with kids (and of course, the witness is a kid). So, who is the killer? Can Kate withstand the FBI agent arriving (who is a man she sought comfort with during her familial collapse)? Can the police figure it out before more people are killed? Well, in true thriller style, the tension gets jacked up a notch at a time, and the characters - though often walking stereotypes (the dark angst-ridden FBI profiler, the tough-rough-around-the-edges detective, the hard-ass victims rights advocate) - are interesting enough to keep you going. I'll be heading onward to 'Dust to Dust' soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! This was the first book I've read by Hoag & I'M IMPRESSED! Kept me reading way past midnight most nights & I never suspected the real culprit at all! What a thrilling ride! She made the characters come alive & you got to know Kate Conlan very well. I can hardly wait to read "Dust To Dust"!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shocking to my Core!! Just one word, wow! This had to be one of the best books I have ever read and trust me, I have read a lot of books. This is the first of hers that I had ever read but it made want to go out and buy another, she mixes everything beautifully together, always keeping you in suspense and guessing as to who the killer is, it wasn't who I expected that's for sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ashes to Ashes This was possibly the best book that I have ever read. Tami Hoag just keeps getting better and better. The suspense was so great, that I lived and breathed the book until I finished it. Even after I could not stop thinking about it. The twists and turns keep you guessing til the very end and the romance entwined in the plot was superb. Just excellent.
