Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it the first time, even more the second time Backwards to Oregon was my introduction to Jae’s writing several years ago; having the opportunity to read a revised edition of the book and to revisit this story was a true pleasure. The characters are wonderful, the writing compelling and the story all the more engaging a second time thru. It’s hard to put down one of Jae’s books once you’ve been drawn into that world she’s created, rich in detail that’s been clearly and thoroughly researched. Backwards to Oregon is set in 19th century USA and reading it now has the added bonus of there now being a sequel and several short story collections available to read in this same universe so readers can fall in love with the characters here and then revisit them in multiple other works. The revised edition also includes the short story A Rooster’s Job, another Luke Hamilton tale, so even more bang for your buck in this edition. I highly recommend this book, its sequel, and the related short stories for superb storytelling that will transport you to the Old West minus the Hollywood glamour but filled with incredible characters and their many adventures. Author Jae has also written in other genres and time settings but consistent thru them all is high caliber writing that makes for very satisfying reading any day of the week, and rereading as well.
