From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sylvia Day comes the provocative masterstroke of abandon and obsession that redefined the meaning of desire, and became a global phenomenon...

Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness…

He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I’d never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…

Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other’s most private wounds…and desires.

The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn’t tear us apart…

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I was expecting Possible spoilers ahead, I don't go in detail but you'll understand the overall story! When I first purchased the book I had high hopes that this story between Eva and Gideon was going to surprise me and sweep me off into a world of wanting a relationship similar to theirs and quite honestly, I couldn't have been more let down. I have previously read the "Fifty Shades of Grey" series by E.L. James and had mixed emotions about it. At first I loved it but once I took a step back from it I realized just how messed up their "love" story really was. I had such high hopes that Eva and Gideon's story would not leave me feeling the same. The novel lacked sexual tension. They were together so quickly that I hadn't had time to realize what was actually happening before they were both getting it on in various places. Both main characters had experienced traumatizing events in their past that had shaped them into who they were, which is appreciated, not everyone can be perfect, but I felt that at the end of the novel, after finding out Eva's mental issues, I didn't feel excited and intrigued to read the second novel in this series to possibly find out more about Gideon. Day left the novel in a place where I was quite content to close the book and say "that's all I need to know about Eva and Gideon". I'm disappointed that I didn't feel a stronger connection with either characters that would've pushed me to continue reading. I must admit though that the writing was a heck of a lot better than the Fifty Shades series but unfortunately unlike that series, I didn't finish this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Book I can read this story over and over and over again! I absolutely cannot wait for the 5th book. I've never been so in love with characters and their stories. A must read series!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay, but tired of dysfunction I would have enjoyed more sexual tension build up before jumping into the characters talking about "fucking" and sex so early. Then I got tired of the constant get mad and leave dysfunctional relationship issue. It would be nice to have a build up of romance and sexual tension without SO much if the same issue over and over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A different twist from 50 Shades of Grey What A great build for more books. Equally as exciting as 50 Shades. Super sexy without bdsm in it, yet

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bared to You Much better than Fifty Shades. Bared to You is well written and has a story line. Eva and Gideon are a much more belivable couple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sylvia Day Sylvia never fails with the best characters in her books. I love Giddeon and although Eva is nerve racking at times she is likable. Story line is well written hope we find out about his past

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must read! This series of books is a must read. You won't be able to put them down! Hot, steamy and a plot so thick you might want to fill your prescription for valium before you read them! Can't wait for the final book in this series!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good I'm hovering between a 3 and a 4 out of 5. This has similar scenes to the book "that-shall-not-be-named" but the writing is so much better. There's also a bit more depth to it. What annoyed me the most was the emotional angst and the back and forth, on and off again relationship Eva and Gideon shared. They're both traumatized by theirs pasts and we do find out the past of one, but not the other and that bothered me. I found their fights to be so over the top and downright ridiculous. Many times I felt that Eva was making something into nothing, while Gideon had no barriers for privacy whatsoever. I would be beyond pissed if he pulled stuff like that on me. I also couldn't fathom why Eva had to explain how beautiful every character she knows. We get it, everyone is a Barbie and Ken doll in your fictional world.. It doesn't have to be repeated. I found Gideon to be positively overbearing, controlling and super possessive. He had his sweet moments though. His physical description made me imagine Henry Cavill the entire time,so that was fun. As for Eva, I had no idea why she felt like she wasn't worthy of Gideon. She would dismiss her worth all the time and it bothered me so much. I liked Cary in the beginning but after what he did to his love, I started to detest him. And what's up with his "baby girl" nickname? It's just as annoying as "Inner Goddess." Overall, I say pick it up for the steamy sexy scenes, but lack of character development and a page turning story eventually made me feel like it wasn't finished. Hopefully these are fixed in the sequel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I thought the story was good, but I didn't love it as much as 50shades. Plot line was good, those steamy love scenes weren't written all that well. I didn't find them sexy at all. Really just a big, fat copy cat of 50 Shades of Grey!!
