about

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mainstream Not anything special but not bad, I'd do a lot of research if this series is right for you before committing to the extremely long story

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mediocre As someone who loves long books, I found this series was too lengthy for the amount of actual action and important events that occurred. It had a lot of build up but no climax. The series is tricky to stay committed to but some readers may enjoy it

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A Little Long Beautifully gothic with just the right amount of darkness and magic, I kind of fell out of the series half way through though because of some characters getting annoying and the plot just going in circles. Still a good read though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your time I really didn't think the series could get worse but it did

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not my cup of tea An ok sequel, but still wasn't what I expected

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than first A good sequel, but still pretty predictable

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good It was a pretty good book. it developed nicely from the first book. It wasn't anything super amazing, though.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much Better Than the Last One I didn't enjoy Beautiful Creatures very much because of the predictability, but it served as a good lead in to this book. I really like how Ridley was a more prominent character and she served as a good distraction from the monotony. The book still was quite repetitive, but definitely better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from gets better a lot better than the first one

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beautiful Darkness (Beautiful Creatures #2) by Kami Garcia This novel is quite different that the last book. For the most part, the setting is very different, and the romance between Ethan and Lena is no longer at center stage. No complaints here, since I loved the development of the Caster world and look forward to seeing more of it in future instalments. My favourite thing about Beautiful Creatures was its cozy, Southern setting and characters. In Beautiful Darkness, like I said, the setting may be different some of the time, but the characters are still there. I loved the development of some of the supporting characters. Ridley was probably my favourite character from the last book, so seeing her become one of the main characters in this novel was refreshing. And, even though they only seemed to be used for the progression of the plot, the additions of Liv and John were nice, too. Oh, and Lucille the cat is very present in this book, too. What's not to love about that?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not As Good As The First I usually find that the first book in every series is better than the second and this series is no exception. It was a good story and it was fluid with the first but it was not as mesmerizing as the first was for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Nice I really liked it, as it continues really nicely from where the first book had left off. It's really interesting.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No No no just no. This book was boring and way too long for how it ended. This book was not something I would recommend it was boring and repetitive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good follow up! Just like the first book, it' s a great vacation book. No need to over think or analyze, just a captivating story that always makes you want to read "just one more page"
Date published: 2013-02-13
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Page Turner Loved this one as much as the first. although it reminded me of new moon from the twilight series. you wanted Ethan and Lena to be together. when they weren't, you were as miserable reading about it as they were feeling in the book.
Date published: 2012-10-05
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Was expecting more I didn't find the first book all that good, and really hoping that the second would be better, but I didn't feel like it was any better then the first. The first 300 pages could of defiantly been shortened down as it took a long time to get going, and then when it finally started to look up, it was over... A lot like the first book.
