Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He's a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You're hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You'd like to get to know Grace better.

But it's difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.

Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn't work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.

Some might wonder what's really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

From bestselling author B. A. Paris comes the gripping thriller and international phenomenon Behind Closed Doors.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author B. A. Paris grew up in England but has spent most of her adult life in France. She has worked both in finance and as a teacher and has five daughters. Behind Closed Doors is her first novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Gripping thriller, page turner This was a fantastic book. My first book by this author and I absolutely loved it. The kind of book that has you hooked from the very first page, and is a true page turner. I was reading late into the night to find out what was going to happen next. A must read for any fan of thrillers!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Page-Turner! This was a great read. Great psychological thriller that I couldn't put down. I didn't give it 5 stars because I felt a little cheated by the ending of the book.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Read I finished this one pretty quickly, and was sad when it ended. I wish the story kept going. The author told a page-turning story things that couples go through when no one else is watching, versus when they are....and the things that you wouldn't always suspect..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Page Turner! I read this book in one sitting because I HAD to find out how it ended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Yes and no Wasn't sure to give this book a 3 or 4 star because although its well written the situation in the book is just ridiculous. Its frustrating because its an un-thinkable situation. But very well written and very suspenseful which I love !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from a good story this is a good thriller. not my all time favourite but still really good. I am reading her other book ( the break down ) now. worth a read
Date published: 2018-04-12
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely terrifying! 4.5 stars...absolutely terrifying and definitely one of the best thrillers I've read! I love that it was all from Grace's perspective and each chapter switched between the past and present eventually merging quickly to the final chapters. Lost half a star as I wish the author developed their relationship more at the beginning. I felt it was a bit rushed and would have deserved 5 stars if the start of their relationship felt more genuine.
Date published: 2018-04-09
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast and Furious! Absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. Although it isn't a classic twisty thriller and you are made aware of the antagonist from the start, it was still filled suspense. You find yourself feeling frustrated by the situations the narrator finds herself in while cheering on her accomplishments. The character transformation of both the husband and the wife was so in-depth and complete which made the read very enjoyable. Overall, the author managed to write a classic story of a controlling husband and a passive wife in a new and interesting way.
Date published: 2018-04-04
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Frustrated I didn't like this one. I was frustrated with the situation she found herself in. Had to read to the end to find out how it ended. But not a fan at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Intense & Chilling! We never know what goes on behind closed doors. This saying certainly applies to the psychological thriller written by B.A. Paris. Beyond the beautiful garden, the immaculate home, and the impeccable furnishings and décor live the people who personify perfection and marital bliss to the outside world, but as we all know, looks can be very deceiving. Grace thought that she had finally found her Prince Charming. Jack Angel was a man that exuded confidence, charisma, and intelligence. He was a successful lawyer who championed in cases of domestic violence against women, he was well-mannered, considerate, and was more than accepting of Grace’s sister. In the early months of their relationship, Jack Angel was the ideal man in every way, but his true colors started to show after they became husband and wife. The book is told entirely from Grace’s perspective. It is also told in alternating chapters from the present day to the past, allowing readers to see how Grace and Jack’s dream relationship first began and how it suddenly morphed into the nightmare that Grace was living on a daily basis. Behind Closed Doors is a very fast paced read. I was completely enthralled in the story and needed to find out what was going to happen next. I could feel Grace’s fear and desperation with every turn of the page. I felt as though I was living through it all right alongside of her. It was frightening, unnerving, and a completely plausible situation. That’s what makes these type of psychological thrillers so gripping, they could actually happen in real life. Behind Closed Doors was an intense, chilling book that kept me frantically flipping the pages until the final page.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best thriller! I read this book so quickly because it is truly a page turner! Every chapter I found myself saying just one more! Definitely will re-read

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick read! This was a quick read! I just couldn't put it down. A thriller than just keeps you turning those pages.
Date published: 2018-02-05
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Thrilling fast read! The storyline and the way the book was written made it really hard to put the book down! A few things I couldn't understand: why Jack really wanted Millie as his end goal and what exactly Jack was up to in Thailand. Also, at times the thought of what Grace was going through was quite disturbing.
Date published: 2018-02-03
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Page Turner I couldn't put this book down - I had to know how it would end. Told by alternating between the past and present, the story unfolds with a chilling plot that will have you racing for the end.
Date published: 2018-02-01
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wanted to love this I really wanted to love this book. I went in with high expectations but the story was just not for me. I usually don't like books that go between past and present but this book pulled it off flawlessly (one of the things I liked about this book).
Date published: 2018-01-15
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Behind Closed Doors 'Behind Closed Doors' is a story of psychological suspense. Jack and Grace Angel's marriage is the envy of all who know them. He is handsome, wealthy and a successful lawyer specializing in domestic abuse cases. She is beautiful, kind and an accomplished artist. They appear to be devoted to eachother. The title of the book should tip you off to the fact that all is not well 'behind closed doors'. Their harrowing story is told alternating between their past and the present. Jack is a sadistic psychopath (not a spoiler - it's pretty much spelled out in the first few pages) with evil plans for Grace and Millie, her younger sister who has Down's Syndrome. This book was not always easy to read, particularly if the reader has experienced any form of abuse. Still, the author plays a good game of cat and mouse and draws out the story to a satisfactory conclusion. I would definitely put this one in the category of 'beach book' - a fast, exciting read that does not demand too much of the reader.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Mystery Thriller I really enjoyed this book. Generally, I don't like books that go back and forth in time, but it worked really well in this novel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Twisted and many surprises This book goes between present and past. It started to get interesting at 1/3 in. The plot is twisted with many surprises throughout. I really enjoyed this book!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow! I don't think I've ever read a book where I actually wished for a slow, painful death of one of the main characters as much as I did with Behind Closed Doors! B. A. Paris does an amazing job of pulling the reader in from the very first word and holding on tightly until the very last one. I read this book in a couple of hours as I was unable to put it down, feverishly reading on to find out what happens. The switching from "past to present" added to the depth of the story as well as helping to build up to the end (which, yes, you may figure out is coming, but is very well done). I would highly recommend this book & may have just found myself a new author to read!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great novel I loved the ending of this novel. It kept me guessing, and all loose ties were wrapped up in the end. Would recommend.
Date published: 2017-09-27
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quite disappointed I began this novel with high hopes. It was an exciting concept and interesting characters. However, even though I read this book quickly, on every page I was frustrated and disappointed that our main heroine behaves in such a wimpy manner...she has opportunity after opportunity to help herself and constantly passes on them out of fear and complacency. The ending is abrupt and disappointing. I think I read it as quickly as I did out of sheer frustration that the main character is almost completely unable to do anything to change her situation. I kept hoping she'd develop a spine! I have no further interest in reading books portraying women as such helpless victims.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Couldn't put this down! I have been reading a few thrillers lately and this was one of the best. it was well written and a definite page turner, read it in two days! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down! This novel was excellent! It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and all the twists and turns were addictive. My only critique would be the ending is a little anticlimactic, however, great novel overall and I would recommend. NOTE: This novel details rather explicitly content that includes domestic abuse and may be triggering to some individuals.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesomely creepy debut novel From the first pages, I knew there was something wrong with Grace and Jack's apparently perfect marriage. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong; I could sense that they were both trying far too hard. This book grabbed me from the first pages and wouldn't let go. Once I reached the mid-point, I could not put down as I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep without knowing how the story ended. I don't often read psychological thrillers as they are too creepy and this one excelled in this area. Not knowing what Jack would do next was one thing, but trying to imagine how Grace would respond kept me on the edge of my seat. I want to tell you more about this story, but that would be giving away plot secrets. Remember that you can never know what goes on in a marriage without being part of it. I received a free review copy in exchange for an honest review. #IndigoEmployee

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Disturbing and thrilling 4.5 stars. This was an insanely good book, and I desperately wanted to give it 5 stars but I just can't. I read this book in one day, in just a few hours. The storyline was amazing and I couldn't put it down, but I will warn that it was a disturbing storyline and it may not be for everybody. The reason I've taken off half a star is because of how Millie was portrayed. I understand that she has Downs Syndrome, but she was not stupid. She was 18 years old and the way she was narrated was like she was 5, and that really bothered me. But it didn't take away from the whole of the book. The plot was fantastic, and I had moments while reading it where I was genuinely frightened. I was sad when I reached the end - but I was satisfied with the ending in a way that I'm not usually with thriller books. Usually you make it through an amazing book and find a half-assed ending. But not with this book. I would highly recommend this book to anybody who loves a good thriller.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from There are way better thrillers than this Pointless plot, crummy characters, weak writing. It was unbelievable and putrid and flat with honestly no redeeming qualities at all. "Behind Closed Doors" was such a waste of time that I won't spend more time writing this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I was hesitant to buy this book because, I had not heard about it and it did not have 'Bestseller' written on the cover. I settled in for an OK read, but read it in less than a day! It is fast-paced and chilling! An amazing debut novel. Right up there with Gone Girl and Girl on the Train. I am looking forward to the next book by B. A. Paris.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from What a debut! My favourite genre right now is psychological, twisty thrillers. And lucky for me, there seem to be many to choose from lately! Behind Closed Doors is B. A. Paris's debut novel. And it was a good one.... Following a whirlwind romance and wedding to Jack, Grace seems to have it all - a beautiful home and a successful, handsome, devoted husband who makes it possible for her not work. 'Seems to' being the key words. That's looking from the outside in. Because what's happening behind closed doors is a completely different story, Grace is actually a prisoner in her home. Locked in with Jack controlling everything - money, seeing friends, clothes and food. Grace's younger sister Millie is what Jack uses to control Grace. And Millie is what keeps her going...... What an addictive read! I couldn't put it down. Early on I was shouting at Grace to listen to her intuition and run. And then I was behind those doors with Grace, hoping and planning her escape - and revenge. But as every attempt fails and the months go by, Grace's determination and strength starts to wane. " I hold my hands out in front of me and the shaking that I can't control tells me what I've only just begun to realise but what Jack has know all along - that fear is the best deterrent of all." Paris has created a charming but deadly psychopath in Jack. His dialogue and manipulative actions are simply chilling. Grace is of course the polar opposite, a likable, caring, genuine person who was attracted to a man she thought also had those traits. Paris unfolds this story in a now and then narrative - how things started and where they are now. There were a few plot details that ask the reader to suspend disbelief. I suggest you do - stopping to ponder them will only slow up your reading. And this is an action filled read, rather than a slow building suspense book. Did I like? Absolutely! Great escapist reading on the porch swing on a summer's day. Read an excerpt of Behind Closed Doors. Behind Closed Doors would make a great movie. B.A. Paris's second book, Every Little Thing, will release early next year. (On my TBR list for sure!)
