The international number one bestselling author tells the story of a strong woman trying to be good in a world gone bad, taking us from London to New Orleans and beyond in this powerful, moving historical novel. She witnessed a murder - and now her life is in danger . . . Fifteen year-old Belle, though raised in a London brothel, is an innocent. But when she witnesses one of the girls brutally strangled by a client, she is cast into a cruel, heartless world. Snatched from the streets and sold into prostitution, she is made a courtesan in New Orleans. At the mercy of desperate men who crave her beauty and will do anything to keep her, Belle's dreams of home, family and freedom appear futile. Are Belle's courage and spirit strong enough to help her escape? And what will await her at the end of the long, dangerous journey home? Rated 3 out of 5 by from Guilty Pleasure Sometimes a book falls unto the category 'Guilty Pleasure' and 'Belle' by Lesley Pearse is definitely in that category. Belle is a sheltered 15 year old girl in the early 1900's who is raised in a brothel. After she witnesses a murder, she is kidnapped and sold into the sex trade. However, our Belle is smart, she is beautiful, she is plucky. As she travels from England, to America, to France, Belle uses her wits to make the best of a very bad situation. Her family in London never stop looking for her. This book has a feisty heroine; not just one but two love interests (which one will win out in the end?); action; adventure and happy endings. Sometimes you just want to read a book because it's a fun read. This one will fit the bill.
