The exciting fourth novel in bestselling author Kelley Armstrong's "impossible-to-put-down" Cainsville series.

When Olivia's life exploded--after she found out she was not the adopted child of a privileged Chicago family but of a notorious pair of convicted serial killers--she found a refuge in the secluded but oddly welcoming town of Cainsville, Illinois. Working with Gabriel Walsh, a fiendishly successful criminal lawyer with links to the town, she discovered the truth about her parents' crimes in an investigation that also revealed the darker forces at work in the place that had offered her a haven. As if that wasn't enough, she also found out that she, Gabriel and her biker boyfriend Ricky were not caught in an ordinary sort of love triangle, but were hereditary actors in an ancient drama in which the elders of Cainsville and the mysterious Huntsmen who opposed them had a huge stake.
Now someone is killing street kids in the city, and the police have tied Ricky to the crimes. Setting out with Gabriel's help to clear Ricky's name, Olivia once again finds her own life at risk. Soon the three are tangled in a web of betrayals that threatens their uneasy equilibrium and is pushing them toward a hard choice: either they fulfill their destinies by trusting each other and staying true to their real bonds, or they succumb to the extraordinary forces trying to win an eternal war by tearing them apart.
KELLEY ARMSTRONG is the internationally bestselling author of the thirteen-book Women of the Otherworld series, the Nadia Stafford crime novels and her new series set in the fictional town of Cainsville, Illinois, which so far includes the novels Omens, Visions and Deceptions. She is also the author of the hit e-serialized crime novel ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! As always KA had me hooked from the beginning I love this series!
Date published: 2018-12-16
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not the best in the series, but it's worth the read! So glad that KA recapped what had happened to the characters throughout this one. I waited until Rituals (the last in the series) was published before i started this one as I hate putting 12 months between books in a series. I recommend reading all 5 in a row now that it's done. As always Kelley Armstrong has strong characters and spot on dialogue and a pace that doesn't let up!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from ok was hyped for this book, and was somewhat pleased, but not entirely. Good for a quick read, but will not match your highest expectations.

I enjoy the characters, story and the lore used in this series. Cant wait to see how it all ends and what side Olivia will choose. Great read. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Her books keep getting better!! I will be honest. I love Kelly's writing but the first book in this series was very slow for me. Im very happy that I continued with this series because it is awesome!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing series!!! Betrayals starts a few months after the end of Deceptions. It’s masterly written and the ever growing mythology opens new doors for the series that quickly draws your attention. Armstrong takes these legends and myths and shapes them into her own. Betrayals absolutely makes up for the little bit of a disappointment I had with book three, I dived into this story like no time had passed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great installment in this highly addictive Series !!! This series definitely keeps getting better and better. I am such a sucker for love triangles it is ridiculous...maybe cause I've been there before in life .. but there is just something about reading them that makes my heart race and makes everything even more exciting and frustrating. I loved the mystery in this novel, the revelations that were shown to Gabriel about his father and about Gwynn and his past. It honestly breaks my heart for Ricky because he is such a good guy...and wanting what is best for Olivia. It's beautiful how much he loves her. And Gabriel...ahh :) I am so excited to enter into the next book to see if Liv and him finally are able to have more than just a moment... (even if that moment on the slab made me smile uncontrollably like a fool). I am also super excited to see Ricky grow as a character while not in a relationship with Liv... maybe make more a connection with his heritage.. with his new hound :) !!! I love Kelley Armstrong books .. and this series is freaking epic !

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Weirdly addictive Kelley Armstrong usually has me hooked on her books from the first page, and that's also true for this series. I love reading about what's going to happen to Olivia next. However, I'm realizing that every time I finish a book in the series, I've completely forgotten everything I've read. I think the stories idea is great but I think it's a little stretched out and beginning to be a little boring (never thought I'd say that about one of Kelley's series). I guess it's an okay read?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Having trouble getting into it First, Kelley Armstrong is my favourite Canadian author. I enjoy Omens (first book in this series) so much and then Visions was good too... but these last two have been stretching it out a bit for me. I'm struggling to get through this one and keep going to other books/series - I've been trying to read it for 8 months but just can't get into it. (eek!). I know I will get through it eventually, but it's a tough go. Hoping the other reviewer who said it gets good in the last third is right and that Rituals will be better when it comes out and ends the series..... (fingers crossed)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I'm a huge fan of The Cainsville series and Betrayals met my high expectations. It seemed like a lot of the situations the characters were dealing with were wrapping up at the end of the last book and I wondered where Kelley Armstrong would go with this one. Well there was no shortage of trouble for Olivia, Gabriel and Ricky! My only complaint was that I felt Olivia and Ricky in particular went a little too far with the risk taking that they came off as less intelligent than I've come to expect - that was mainly in the first two thirds or so of the book, it did improve towards the end. Overall though, I enjoyed the book thoroughly and had trouble putting it down. Looking forward to the next one!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from LOVED!! Yet another book that I loved. I did love this book but it did seem a little boring at times. The same old same old but with a different storyline. Something needs to change a little to make it more exciting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Series I absolutely adore Kelley Armstrong and this series. I love all the characters and cannot wait for the fifth and final book coming in August
Date published: 2017-02-12
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Earlier books in series are better I recall loving the first book in this series, which was only mildly supernatural and had great mystery and relationship drama. I still enjoyed this book, but the Welsh mythology is a little lost on me and I felt like the suspense/drama was lacking a bit. I'm also getting tired of Gabriel's robotic behaviour and communication while he's still allegedly attractive to people in the book? Bizarre. A good series prior to this book; it gets a 3 because of the previous titles and the overall story.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.25 stars-enchanting series 4.25 stars--BETRAYALS is the fourth installment in Kelley Armstrong’s contemporary, CAINSVILLE paranormal/fantasy series. BETRAYALS should not be read as a stand alone as each consecutive installment builds upon the events of the previous books. BETRAYALS advances the series approximately four months. SOME BACKGROUND: Olivia Taylor-Jones aka Eden Larsen is a twenty four year old woman whose biological parents-Todd and Pamela Larsen- were accused of multiple murders and they currently sit in prison awaiting retrial. Discovering she was adopted and not knowing the truth behind her early years, Olivia finds refuge in the small town of Cainsville where mysterious omens, visions and portents of doom focus their power and intensity at Olivia Taylor-Jones. The people of Cainsville are just as perplexing with their secrets, double speak and touch of magic-everyone in Cainsville is connected and everything happens for a reason. Told from first person point of view (Olivia) and dual third person perspectives (Ricky and Gabriel) BETRAYALS is a story line steeped in Celtic lore where the Fae rule the town of Cainsville, and Olivia’s portents and visions reveal the past, the present and the possible future. When several young women go missing, and are presumed dead the finger of guilt is pointed at Olivia’s boyfriend Ricky. The connection to Olivia brings our heroine front and center, along with Gabriel, her boss and lawyer, into a paranormal investigation that pulls our trio between the past and present; where specieism and the supernatural powers pit themselves against one another; where revenge and betrayal are at the heart of so much death and destruction. Cainsville is a town of magical folk whose glamor hides the truth about the people who live there; where dreams and nightmares are controlled; where visions blend the past and the present betraying a possible future that is likely to unfold. Omens, visions, and harbingers of doom become an every day occurrence as our heroine must read the signs for directions and clues. The Celtic lore and mythology focuses on a love triangle that is represented by our present day trio: Olivia (aka Matilda), Gabriel (Gwynn) and Rickey (Arawn) wherein the past Matilda had to choose between Gwynn or Arawn. The love triangle continues in present day whereby our heroine is in love with both men, and both men are in love with Olivia. History continues to repeat itself, with each successive generation; Olivia, Gabriel and Ricky each have a role to play and fulfill; the possible future is foretold and Olivia is struggling with her emotions and feelings. There is plenty of personal growth for each of the three leading characters-some is resignation and acceptance, while most is a willingness to go forward and explore. The people of Cainsville have chosen their ‘victor’ and continue to push Olivia in the direction they choose. BETRAYALS is a wonderful and enchanting story line where the past becomes the present, and history becomes to replay and repeat. The premise is dramatic, intriguing and suspenseful; the characters are energetic, passionate and fascinating; the mythology and lore are entertaining and inventive. As with all of Kelley Armstrong’s books and series, the romance is secondary to the main story line but the potential for heartbreak makes the reader vulnerable to sorrow-one way or another.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Favourite in the Cainsville Series so Far! Absolutely AMAZING! Kelley Armstrong had a Facebook contest to win a bound copy of BETRAYALS and I was the extremely lucky reader who won it!!! Once I started reading I was hooked, which isn't surprising since that's happened with every since other book in the Cainsville series. I pretty much read it nonstop in one day, and I absolutely loved it...and the ending, oh my goodness, the ending means that the fifth books is going to be amazing!!! I'm already excited to buy myself a finished copy of BETRAYALS, reread it and then anxiously and eagerly await the final book in the series! haha :D BETRAYALS is definitely my favourite in the series so far. I loved the mystery aspects, and I loved getting to read more from Gabriel and Ricky's points of view...especially Gabriel's, he's my absolute favourite!!! :D As always, I absolutely loved Liv, too. She's such a strong, smart, wonderful character, and she's amazing in this one. It's also so interesting to learn more about Matilda, Gwynn and Arawn...even more so once we start to see the similarities and connections between Olivia, Gabriel, and Ricky!! I'm a sucker for mythology and I don't know much about Celtic mythology, so I'm extremely fascinated by it in this series, and BETRAYALS has really started to expand on the mythology aspect of the story--it's fantastic!! :D I absolutely loved BETRAYALS and I think that other fans of the Cainsville series will, too! If you haven't started the Cainsville series and you love awesome main characters who are strong, fierce and who tend to get into some pretty precarious situations, I think you'll love the Cainsville series. It's also great for anyone who enjoys stories involving mythology, Celtic lore, and fae. :D I totally recommend that everyone check this series out's absolutely fantastic and one of my top favourites!

Editorial Reviews

“Kelley Armstrong sure knows how to spin a yarn. . . . Betrayals, Armstrong’s best book yet, is the fourth novel set in the otherworldly town of Cainsville. . . . Along with the supernatural, Armstrong knows her ratiocination.” —The Globe and Mail Praise for Kelley Armstrong's Cainsville series:"Impossible-to-put-down. . . . Bring on the next Cainsville volume, please." —Sarah Weinman "[Kelley Armstrong's] dispatches from this village filled with sinister secrets are going to be keeping her readers up well into the night." —Linwood Barclay“Kelley Armstrong has paranormal elements in her classic mysteries but there are no ghouls, ghosts, werewolves or fairies and that’s why readers who loathe crossovers will love this series. [Deceptions is] smart, cleverly plotted and really well written and you don’t have to ignore the vampires to get to the good stuff.” —Margaret Cannon, The Globe and Mail“Sometimes big, bad things really do come in small packages and no one is more adept at unwrapping them than she, making Deceptions a paranormal tale beautifully written and told.” —Providence Journal “I am not a fan of mysteries that cross over into other genres, and I don’t like books that begin with infant narrators. So when I tell you that, despite that, Omens kept me reading on, you can bet it’s a good book. . . . A clever whodunit with some very nice twists and the fantasy actually works.” —Margaret Cannon, The Globe and Mail“Armstrong creates heroines who are smart and strong, but with real weaknesses and vulnerabilities. They may be wrapped up in the supernatural, but they are realistic and relatable.” —Joanne Kelly, Winnipeg Free Press“One of the best new series debuts this year! With its compelling characters and completely original set-up, Omens delivers a powerful combination of suspenseful thrills and supernatural chills. I can’t wait to read more!” —Lisa Gardner, New York Times bestselling author of Touch & Go   “Like the creepy, spooky town of Cainsville, Kelley Armstrong’s Omens lured me in. I was busy, way too busy for this book, which, through a series of surprises and sleights of hand, had me conspiring for ways to get back to the gripping story, the colorfully bizarre cast of characters, and the clever, strong, smart heroine at its center. Don’t pick this book up if you have anything else to do. It will grab you by the collar and won’t let you up for air until it’s good and ready. And once you’re done, you won’t soon forget it.” —Lisa Unger, New York Times bestselling author of In the Blood
