Detective Sigurdur Oli is in trouble.

After a school reunion exposes the chasm between his life and those of his much more successful contemporaries, leaving him bitter and resentful, one of his old friends asks him to pay an unofficial visit to a couple of blackmailers. He readily agrees, only to arrive to find one of the pair lying in a pool of blood. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sigurdur ole's solo case In the other books, I always felt Sigurdur Ole was a bit incompetent, but he is very skillful in this one. He is on his own because Erlendur is on one of his vacations to where he grew up. The question raised in this book is how much of what happens in our childhood affects our adult lives. It's an interesting question, answered mostly by Sigurdur Ole's connection with a homeless man who actually wants to speak to Erlendur.. This book has a lighter atmosphere than Indridson's novels where Erlendur is the main character, but Iceland still claims lives.
