Playing with Lucifer, she's bound to get burned.

Kissera's life has been in a downward spiral ever since an acid-spitting demon destroyed Midtown Manhattan. Bad turns worse when her companion, Angela, vanishes after a nasty argument. The vampire police suspect foul play and slap her with an ultimatum. She's got seven days to prove Angela's alive or spend a century in prison.

With time running out, Kissera turns to the infamous angel Lucifer for help. He's more than willing to give her a hand if she'll ride shotgun while he crushes a homegrown demon rebellion. It's not a fair trade, but when Kissera discovers Angela is hostage of the coup's leader, she'll risk blood, body and soul to get her best friend back. Even if it takes her straight to Hell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOving this series Blood Awakening is the second book in the Awakening Series by Akaria Gale. I got this book from Library Things' member review giveaway). I saw another reviewer that said she was lost without reading Angel Awakening (which does fully end). Me, I think you can start with Blood Awakening and not be too lost. You're not getting the background on the characters, but as far as the storyline goes, not reading book one won't hurt all that much. Before you get too far into this review, I will tell you this one does end with a bit of a cliffhanger, if you want to call it that. The actual story, that of Kissera and Luc, does resolves itself. The background story is what I'd call the cliffhanger, or a look how book three will start. Okay, onward with the review... I really enjoyed book one and this one was no different. All the major characters from book one were in this one too, although it's Kissera's and Lucifer's story. I liked the interaction between the five main characters. They have depth and there's a lot of snarky comebacks. I thought Kissera was kind of a B@#$% in the first book, but I liked getting to know her character more. And Luc would be a blast to hang out with. …The story had a nice pace and it flowed nicely between the various scenes. There was enough action to keep your interest. There are sex scenes in this story, but well thought out and not over the top. Actually, they were just right, not going on for pages, but it got the point across. I'm interesting to see what happens in the next story.
