about

USA Today bestseller!

The "strikingly original" (Booklist) Midnight Breed vampire romance series continues with a pulse-pounding novel of paranormal passion and suspense from New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Lara Adrian.

Carys Chase is accustomed to making her own rules and letting her heart lead the way--no matter what anyone else has to say about it. A rare Breed female and a daywalker as well, headstrong, beautiful Carys is one of the most powerful of her kind. She lives passionately and loves without limits, especially when it comes to the lethal cage-fighting Breed warrior called Rune.

Unbeatable in the ring, Rune exists in a brutal world of blood and bone and death. He's made his share of enemies both in and out of the arena, and his secrets run as deep and turbulent as his past. A dangerous loner who has survived by his fists and fangs, Rune has never allowed anyone to get too close to him...until Carys. But when the bodies buried in his past rise up to threaten his present, Rune must choose between betraying Carys's trust or putting her in the crosshairs of a battle neither of them can hope to win on their own.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Bound by Darkness" by Lara Adrian. Book 13 in the Midnight Breed series. I so loved this book about Rune and Carys! This romance was a little different in this book because Carys and Rune are already a couple right from the start. Their relationship was already established in the previous two books starting in "Edge of Dawn". I found this very interesting. Carys is the daughter of Sterling Chase and Tavia (from "Darker After Midnight" Book 10) and Rune was introduced in the series in "Edge of Dawn" (Book 11). Carys and Rune have been together for about two months and their relationship is passionate and lustful. They spend almost every night together and both know they have feelings for each other. But Rune has rules: No blood bonding being the main one. Carys starts to question their relationship when she knows Rune is keeping secrets. He won't open up to her. How can they have a real relationship when he won't talk to her? Rune loves Carys but he doesn't understand why Carys wants him. He's not worthy of her especially because of his past. If she ever found out, she'd leave him for sure. Even though he should let Carys go for her own safety, he just can't. Does that make him a selfish bastard? Yeah, it does. But he loves her and he'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe from his past. I really enjoyed this story line. The first half of the book we see Carys and Rune's lustful relationship and see them trying to figure out how they fit into each other's lives. The second half of the book, Rune's past comes into play and all hell breaks loose. Carys proves to be one kick ass Breed female and learns a lot about herself in the process. Rune also proves that he's more than just a low life cage fighter. The overall series story arc about Opus Nostrum is very prevalent in this book. A lot of information is given about Opus Nostrum's leader and what they are doing to start a war between humans and Breed. I really liked the teaser chapter about Brynne and Zael basically letting us know that they are the next couple to get their story told. I really enjoyed the growth of Carys and Rune's characters. Seeing them realize their true potential was really exciting. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one.
