Son premier roman, Désormais notre exil, reçoit en 1991 l'Irish Times Literary Prize, tandis que La Bruyère incendiée est couronnée en 1992 par l'Encore Award pour le meilleur second roman. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good I enjoyed the book as much as the movie but i was not a fan of the ambiguous ending in the book, is she in love, is it obligation?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the movie? I was assigned to read this book for an English class and enjoyed it very much. I haven't seen the film yet so I can't answer the question I posed in the title. Toibin does a good job depicting the internal battle inside his main character - one many will be able to identify with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moving and timeless Every once in a while a book comes along that makes me wonder why I didn't read it sooner. This was exactly one of those books. A moving tale that will be relatable to anyone struggling to find the balance between looking back and moving forward.
