Wedding planner Avery Crosslin may be a rising star in Houston society, but she doesn't believe in love-at least not for herself. When she meets wealthy bachelor Joe Travis and mistakes him for a wedding photographer, she has no intention of letting him sweep her off her feet. But Joe is a man who goes after what he wants, and Avery can't resist the temptation of a sexy southern charmer and a hot summer evening.

After a one night stand, however, Avery is determined to keep it from happening again. A man like Joe can only mean trouble for a woman like her, and she can't afford distractions. She's been hired to plan the wedding of the year-a make-or-break event.

But complications start piling up fast, putting the wedding in jeopardy, especially when shocking secrets of the bride come to light. And as Joe makes it clear that he's not going to give up easily, Avery is forced to confront the insecurities and beliefs that stem from a past she would do anything to forget.

The situation reaches a breaking point, and Avery faces the toughest choice of her life. Only by putting her career on the line and risking everything-including her well-guarded heart-will she find out what matters Lisa Kleypas's Brown-Eyed Girl.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lisa Kleypas is always a good read Another Travis family classic that had me ferociously reading this book in one sitting. Admittedly, this was probably my least favourite of them all but it was a good read. There just seemed to be something missing in this one that the others had. With that being said, I definitely can't wait to read what Lisa Kleypas comes up with next!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not my favourite I love Lisa kleypas and I've read all her books. I love the Travis stories, but this one was slow and unexciting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed! I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books. I have read all the books in the Travis Family series and I was excited to finally have the opportunity to read Joe’s story. I love all the other books in this series especially SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER, which is one of my favorites books of all time. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this story or the characters and it saddens me to say that, because I was looking forward to reading this book. Joe is a nice guy, but I didn’t understand what he saw in Avery. She seems cold, isn’t nice to Joe and from the way she is described, she doesn’t sound attractive. Avery Crosslin is a wedding coordinator and she meets Joe Travis when she is working at a wedding. Avery is embarrassed about her body and purposely dresses in clothes that are too large for her to hide her curvy figure. She doesn’t have much self confidence, except when it comes to her job, which is how she spends all her time. Joe is a nice guy; I liked him a lot. There is something about Avery that gets to Joe from the moment he sees her and he keeps running after her and she keeps telling him she isn’t interested. I thought she was crazy. Joe has it all. He comes from a wealthy Texas family, yet he is modest, nice and always treats Avery well. He is very patient with Avery. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite authors and it was wonderful catching up with the Travis family again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely delightful! This is the fourth book in the Travis series (all standalone) and is the story of Joe and his love interest Avery. Avery is a wedding planner, a no-nonsense gal who runs a tight ship on everything, including her emotions. When Joe expresses an interest in her after she mistakenly assumes he's a wedding photographer and not a guest at the wedding she's in charge of, she's quick to politely turn him down. But he is persistent, a charming southern gentleman, and so she treats herself to a one of a kind, one night stand with the intention of never repeating it and just reliving the memories. But just like the first time they met, Joe won't take no for an answer and slowly but surely she is seduced by him into a relationship that excites and delights her at the same time as it scares her to death. Because a man like Joe couldn't really be interested in a curvy girl like her and she's braced for the day when he realizes it. Only, somehow, the tables get turned and she's got to be the one to decide whether she's willing to bet on a future with Joe or follow her dreams. Will she make the right choice? This was such a lovely story! I enjoyed every bit of it, from meeting up with Joe's family and his care and affection for them and they for each other, to Avery's quirky character that gets caught in alternating bouts of confidence and self-doubt. She's had a lousy time of it with men, from bad parental advice from her father to the disastrous ending of her past relationship. Joe seems too good to be true - friendly, charming, and interested in her when he could have his pick from high society. I loved Joe in this story as he doesn't give up on Avery, steadily working his way into her good graces (and her heart) and never giving up on her, even when her own doubts make her do things that would have the reader shake her by the shoulders and say "Are you crazy? This rich, handsome, desirable man wants you, and you're turning him down?!" Although the story is told from Avery's point of view, it's clear that Joe is the type of guy every woman can only dream of meeting, one who is supremely patient in the midst of adversity, a wonderful caring lover and someone who could be your best friend. (yes, he's now at the top of my book boyfriend list!). Their love scenes are sweet and sexy and humorous too, a wonderful combination. While the romance is going on, Avery is working hard at building her business and I really enjoyed the scenes with her and her half sister Sofia, as well as their staff (including Sofia's love interest Steven) as they navigate weddings of the rich (old money and new). When Joe's cousin Ryan is in need of a wedding planner for his upcoming marriage to his pregnant girlfriend, Avery must perform a balancing act between family loyalty and her job and I loved the way this part of the plot unfolded for the reader, making me very glad that wedding planning is not something I do for a living! Suffice it to say it added a lot of tension and drama to the story. When Avery has to admit to herself that Joe means more to her than she planned, she also must make some pretty heavy decisions about her future, especially when Joe makes it clear that a long distance relationship is not in the cards for him. As well, there are some serious moments involving the Travis family that tug at the heartstrings and make it clear how committed this family is to keeping each other safe and happy. From beginning to end, this was a delightful read, with a very satisfying happy ending for Joe and Avery. 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm, witty and wonderful! Warm, wonderful and witty! Superb writing, well-crafted characters, and clever dialogue…a book I wanted to start reading from the beginning when I finished the words on that very last page. I did not want to say goodbye to this story and know I will read it again. I also want to find the first three books in the series and plan to read them, too! I am not going to tell you about all of the things I loved about this book but am going to recommend that you find and read it because it is just that good! Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced reader’s copy of this book to read and review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long time in the making but worth the wait! This book has been a long time in the making. I've known since I read Sugar Daddy that the Travis family was something special. Especially since I got to watch the Travis men and women fall in love with extraordinary women and men, all except Joe. I knew Joe needed to have his story told too. He was the one Travis male who didn't fit the mold. He was an alpha man with a softer side, and that created friction between him and his father who had certain expectations of his sons. What can I say about Avery? She's spunky, determined, and a hard worker. She might not believe in happily ever after for herself but she will go above and beyond to make someone else's special day be everything they dreamed off, no questions asked. There is no problem is too big for her to handle. She's organized and meticulous. She's confident when it comes to her work but she's insecure about herself and her looks. That's something we can all relate to. All I saw was a very capable young woman who underestimated what she had to share with someone else. I hated how Avery's family was unsupportive and belittling. The only one in her corner was was her half-sister Sophia. I loved her friends-employees. I loved their camaraderie. They really made Avery smile and laugh, and me as well. I loved the tension between Sophia and Steven. Their back and forth verbal sparring was truly exciting to behold and great foreplay as well. I was so hoping they'd get together. I also loved how they pushed Avery to leave her safe holding pattern. They provided both friendship and the boost she needed to relax sometimes and take risks she wouldn't have. Joe couldn't have had better allies to woo her if he'd tried. Joe was exactly what Avery needed. He was supportive and challenged her to step out of the confines she'd put herself in to keep her heart safe. You could tell Joe was really into Avery, even when she was trying her best to push him away. It was easy to see how much Joe had changed in the years and the lessons he'd learned from what life had brought him. I loved Joe's overall attitude towards life. Life wasn't always kind to him, even being a charmed Travis, but it was admirable how he took it all in stride. It's amazing how Lisa Kleypas managed to make me fall in love with him through only Avery's eyes. We're never privy to his innermost thoughts, only his actions, yet they were enough to win me over completely. I loved seeing Avery and Joe interact with each other. They had amazing chemistry. I can't tell you how turned on I was while reading this book. In terms of heat, it's all mostly suggestive, but the way it's written you can not only see it, but feel it. That takes true talent. Lisa Kleypas is also the queen at the slow burn. She builds anticipation with precision and great technique. I was so happy to see the Travis-Cates clan together. It wasn't just Gage, Liberty, Haven, Hardy, Jack, Emma, and Luke, but it was seeing their strong bonds with each other and how their families had grown with time. My heart hurt to find out Churchill had passed. I would've loved for him to meet Avery. I think he would've adored her. I also loved meeting Ryan, a cousin to the Travis'. I fell in love with him a little in this book, and I would love to read a full length story featuring him one day. That man needs some honest love. Lisa Kleypas might have made us wait for this story, but the wait was so worth it. The story flowed beautifully and her writing bordered on poetic. I was able to "see" what she was describing in my mind. I devoured the story in handful of hours, but it felt like no time at all. I wouldn't have minded reading another hundred pages or two. I sincerely hope the wait between this book and her next contemporary won't be so long. I can never get enough of her writing and stories!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another winner for Kleypas! I really enjoyed this book. It seems like I have been waiting forever to get my hands on this book. Okay, I know that it has only been six years but it has felt like forever to me. I read Sugar Daddy right after its release and immediately fell in love with Lisa Kleypas's storytelling. I was at the book store to buy the next two books in the series on the day they were released. When I found out that there was going to be a fourth book after all these years, I was thrilled. I am so happy that this book turned out to be worth the wait. This book focuses on Joe and Avery. Joe is a part of the Travis family, a wealthy yet down to earth family living in Texas. Joe is really just a nice guy doing a job that he loves who happens to be a part of a wealthy family. Joe is a wonderful Hero. He is kind, sexy, and seems to understand Avery better than she understands herself. He knows exactly what he wants and is not afraid to take chances to achieve his goals. Avery is a wedding planner who does not have the close family ties that Joe has but she does have a sister that means the world to her. Avery along with her sister run a wedding planning business that is just starting to take off. Avery is a no nonsense kind of person who is focused on work and getting things done. She isn't able to see herself the way that other people do and hides in loose unflattering clothes. She has had a very difficult past that has tore her self esteem apart. I liked Joe and Avery together. They seem to really fit together nicely. There was a lot of chemistry and sexual tension between the pair. I liked that Avery, who was very guarded, seemed to open up to Joe very easily. Joe was able to understand Avery and not put any pressure on her. He was really the man that Avery needed him to be. He didn't push anything and was more than willing to be a patient as necessary. He was also very honest with Avery and let her know what to expect without trying to change her mind. He was willing to support her and wanted her to be happy even if her choices were not what he would want. I was so excited to see the Travis family again. Hardy, Gage, Liberty, and the whole gang do make a couple of appearances in this book but this story stands on its own. This book can be read as a stand alone but I would encourage anyone who has not read the earlier books to go ahead and pick those up as well...not because you need them to understand this story. I just think that the earlier books in the series are excellent books that should not be missed. This book is a solid installment in the series but I have to admit that the first two books are still my favorite. I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. Lisa Kleypas is one of those romance authors that stand out. All of her historical and contemporary romance novels are wonderful stories with characters that find a way into your heart and leave a smile on your face. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. I received an advance reader edition of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing It feels like it has been forever that I've been waiting for this book and happily I can say I wasn't disappointed. This is one that will go right on the re-read shelf with the other Travis Family books. Joe Travis may have wealth and social status but to him, home and family are what really matters in life. Too bad he hasn't met the right woman yet. That is until Avery Crosslin..... Avery is hardworking and determined. The last thing she needs or wants is a man distracting her from her goals. Been there, done that, has the shredded heart to prove it. Joe, however, is persistent. When he knows what he wants, he goes after it and Avery is what he wants!! You don't want to miss this one, I highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another Uncommonly Sexy Travis to Swoon Over! 3.5-4 Stars | Hot Steam Sweet, charming and deliciously sensual, Joe and Avery’s delightful romance surprises and sizzles page after page. While not as epic or intense as the previous Travis Family novels, Brown-Eyed Girl delivers a top-notch contemporary love story that engages, entertains and, most importantly, gifts the reader another uncommonly sexy Travis brother to swoon over. Although Joe may not be my all-time favorite Travis brother—that shining award goes to Jack—he is a wonderful hero. Mature, loving and loyal, he says all of the right words, usually leading with “Honey…”, and does every single thing impossibly well. Honest, open and committed from the start, Joe brings zero drama or negativity to the relationship—only unfiltered passion. He’s basically the perfect man—ever patient, willing to please, worshipful and relentless in his pursuit of Avery. And his bedroom skills? That man is exceedingly talented. We’re talking off the charts, white-hot, sex-god talented. His wicked, wicked moves were so good in fact that he had me momentarily asking Jack who? :) Avid Travis Family fans that have eagerly awaited Joe and Avery’s story since 2009 will no doubt enjoy this pleasurable and very steamy escape as well as find satisfying closure to one of contemporary romance’s finest series. For those new to the Travises, you really couldn’t get any better than Lisa Kleypas. And, if at all tempted, I would strongly suggest starting the series from the beginning before reading Brown-Eyed Girl. Just be sure to block out some serious hours because you won’t be able to put the Travises down! Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.
