about

Get bound up in murder in the first Lighthouse Library mystery!

For ten years Lucy has enjoyed her job poring over rare tomes of literature for the Harvard Library, but she has not enjoyed the demands of her family’s social whorl or her sort-of-engagement to the staid son of her father’s law partner. But when her ten-year relationship implodes, Lucy realizes that the plot of her life is in need of a serious rewrite.

Calling on her aunt Ellen, Lucy hopes that a little fun in the Outer Banks sun—and some confections from her cousin Josie’s bakery—will help clear her head. But her retreat quickly turns into an unexpected opportunity when Aunt Ellen gets her involved in the lighthouse library tucked away on Bodie Island.

Lucy is thrilled to land a librarian job in her favorite place in the world. But when a priceless first edition Jane Austen novel is stolen and the chair of the library board is murdered, Lucy suddenly finds herself ensnared in a real-life mystery—and she’s not so sure there’s going to be a happy ending....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fresh and clever with a charming setting I pre-ordered Reading Up a Storm months ago, after thoroughly enjoying the first two books in the Lighthouse Mystery series. Author Eva Gates has delivered another winning instalment with book 3. Librarian Lucy Richardson is on the scene when a body is discovered near the library and finds herself drawn into the aftermath of murder. This is a fresh and clever mystery with a memorable cast of characters and one of the most charming cozy settings ever - an Outer Banks lighthouse with a library inside. (Lucy's tiny apartment is in the lighthouse, too, and I SO want to live there!) Looking forward to more in the series - and the sooner, the better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cozy! Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book which I received in exchange for an impartial and honest review. I enjoyed this book immensely even though I hadn't previously read the first two books in the series. I will be making sure that I do go back to the start at the beginning and catch up! Reading Up A Storm by Eva Gates is the third book in the Lighthouse Library Cozy Mystery Series. The setting for the book combines 2 of my favourite things, lighthouses and libraries... and the assistant librarian, Lucy, even gets to live above the library, how awesome would that be? It's like a dream come true! After a surprise party, Lucy goes upstairs to cuddle with her cat, Charlie, snuggle in and relax reading a book. Before that happens though, she looks out the window and sees a boat heading towards some odd looking lights on the shore. Knowing this would not end well, she called 911 in an attempt to help and, luckily, with the help of the coast guard and some other volunteers, the 2 passengers survive (though the boat ends up badly damaged) A few days later, one of the passengers ends up dead on the shore and suddenly, it's Lucy's friend, Stephanie, who is accused of the murder! Can Lucy help her friend and track down the real killer? I loved the descriptions in this book... from the location, to the characters themselves, I was able to picture everything perfectly in my mind. I wish this library was a place I could visit, and that I could make friends with these people! There were lots of little twists and turns in the story which keep you guessing as to the identity of the murderer, so much so that I wasn't able to figure it out until just before it was revealed in the story. Well done! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves cozy mysteries, so what are you waiting for? Go grab a copy of this book and get reading!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fun cozy mystery Booked for Trouble is the second book in the Lighthouse Library Mystery series staring likable librarian Lucy Richardson and Charles the resident library feline. I thoroughly enjoyed this offering by Eva Gates, even though I haven't had the opportunity to read the first book of the series. Lucy is an incredibly likable character and you want to root for her from the beginning. Set in the picturesque area of the Outer Banks, Ms. Gates uses the local scenery almost as an additional character to great effect. The reader feels transported to the beach and local hotspots featured in the book, including the wonderfully imaginative lighthouse library. Despite the author's note at the beginning of the book, I found myself dreaming of visiting the Bodie Lighthouse Library and meeting Charles. Booked for Trouble is full of quirky characters that add to the enjoyability of the story as a whole. Whether they are in favor of or against the lighthouse library, each character brings his-her own special brand of odd to the story. The inclusion of two handsome possible love interests for Lucy only increases the fun! Not only am I eagerly looking forward to the next installment of the series, I can't wait to read the first book to catch up on what happened before Booked for Trouble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful book in new Lighthouse library series! The first in the new Lighthouse Library series finds the heroine, Lucy, starting a new job as an assistant librarian & a new life at a picturesque library located in a lighthouse in the Outer Banks. Lucy has left not only her Librarian position at Harvard but also her long time boyfriend. She is looking forward to being involved with a new exhibit at the library of first edition Jane Austen novels. Things, however, do not get off to a propitious start; at the opening reception the chief of the library board is found dead. Has he been murdered? When more problems plague the exhibit, Lucy, as a new resident, is considered a viable suspect. Can Lucy help to find out who is involved in the death before she is arrested? This is a great start to a new series. I loved the setting, the premise & the characters introduced. Looking forward to the second book!
