about

An irresistible story from Kasie West that explores the timeless question What do you do when you fall for the person you least expect?

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her. Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye. As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Easy but Great Read! After reading some of the reviews I was a little skeptical but I gave it a shot and I was not disappointed. I couldn't put the book down. A typical Kasie West novel, a love story with a deeper story behind it. I would say it's worth the read. #plumreview

Rated 2 out of 5 by from meh this book wasn't really worth the hype that surrounded it. the storyline was just subpar

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not her best By Your Side is Kasie West’s 7th book! It tells the story of Autumn who gets lock in her local library for an entire weekend after and unfortunate event. Turns out, though, that she is not alone. She find herself in the company of Dax, typical loner and badboy. They eventually get out and the question is : will the friendship they began to build in the library survive in the real world? I’m not going to lie, I am disappointed by this book. I really like Kasie West work but this one left me feeling meh. The first half of the book was super slow with nothing major happening until they leave the library. We learn to know a tiny bit about the characters and that’s it. The first half was also, for me kind of hard to believe. Do no one really makes sure that a place is totally empty before locking the doors? I don’t know. The second half, though, saved the book. We get to know more about Dax’s background and Autumn’s present situation. We find out that she really has the worst friends (like, it’s bad) and a really supportive family that supports her in her struggle with an anxiety disorder. I think what bothered me is the lack of depth in the characters. I felt like we never get to know them. But, it’s a Kasie West book and she knows how to write a cute story. You get your cute and can’t-stop-smiling-like-an-idiot moment. While the ending is super predictable, the building of the story is good. It’s a cute and fast read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Contemporary Love Story With Realistic Life Issues Kasie West is officially one of my favorite authors. Her characters are three-dimensional, solid, relatable and people that give you a vague sense of deja vu - like perhaps you met them in the hallway of your old high school. I loved the relationship between Autumn and her family, and how well West portrayed the struggles of living with anxiety. This novel is one of the rare few I've read that accurately portrays anxiety in day-to-day life, and I couldn't love Kasie more for it. This is a cute, fluffy, contemporary love story, but it goes into far deeper issues than I expected from a high school romance novel. I finished this book in a matter of hours, as I could not put it down until I finished the story. Love, love, love it, and highly recommend it!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Meh I liked her other books better. The characters were not very relatable and it did not seem realistic that Jeff's mom thought she could be Jeff's saviour.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Expected more I had very high expectations about this book, I gave it a 3.5 star because it was very enjoyable, not something spectacular as I expected. Fast quick read doesn't take too much time away, worth to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't put it down! By Your Side by Kasie West 5 Stars! - Wow!! I totally LOVED this book. It starts off by being trapped in a library!!! It had me hooked from right then! I have only read one other young adult book, and so I admit, I wasn't sure what to expect...but wow.. it was great! The flirty tension, fun dialogue, and wonderful lead characters just kept me longing to read. I did not want to put the book down! I am very glad my friend recommended this book to me. Well worth the read!!! ~Paragraphs and Petticoats~

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I loved this one! I'm honestly starting to think that Kasie West could publish her grocery list, and I would still cherish each and every word. By Your Side is another adorable melt in your mouth YA contemporary romance by her, and I literally gobbled it up in one sitting. I loved the premise of two teens who are basically strangers getting locked in a library over a weekend, and the cute romance that begins to develop between the two. My favorite part, however, was definitely the issues that they're both dealing with, and not dealing with well until they have each other to believe in. Once again Kasie has written a winning novel in my opinion, and now I'll be counting down the days until Lucky In Love releases in July!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it! I am a huge fan of realistic YA Sarah Dessen is my all time fave which is how I happened upon kasie west. I have enjoyed all of her books but there is something about this one that has catapulted it to the top of my list of hers. Dax and Autumn are amazing characters, not perfect and completely relatable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love story involving being locked in a library HECK YES! A good, light, cute, interesting read! I liked being able to relate to Autumn in a way with her anxiety. I also liked Dax and of course I loved the plot of being trapped in a library with a mysterious and turned out to be really sweet guy. There was actually some interesting plot twists that I didn't expect in this kind of story but they made it that much better!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Adorable I read this book today, and it was really cute. I think it is the perfect mood booster. You just smile a lot while reading this authors books. It is truly inevitable. Plus, the love interest is great. The main character discovers a lot about herself in this book too, which is really cool. Overall, I really liked it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Quick, Honest and Cute Story My love for Kasie West is endless. Her books never disappoint. Her writing always makes me swoon and smile. By Your Side was no exception. It has everything I love in a contemporary story. As a romantic I've daydreamed of being in a similar situation as Autumn. I mean I wouldn't want to be locked up anywhere but who could resist it if it involves a cute boy and one sleeping bag? It's kind of dreamy lol. In reality however, I questioned how the missing teenager storyline would work but Ms. West presents a plausible explanation. It's logical and I appreciate how it carries through the rest of the story. Autumn was a character I liked even though I didn't necessarily agree with some of her thoughts. She was confused about what she was feeling and I thought it made sense for her to hold back on expressing them until she was sure. However, I didn't like how she wasn't upfront when she was confronted. I wanted her to stand up for herself sooner rather than later. True friends would understand her issue. Autumn and Dax started off cautious around one another. The more time they spent in each other's company the more they shared with each other. I like how Dax pushed Autumn to be honest. In turn, Autumn was by Dax's side when he needed someone. They were good for each other. It was actually really sweet to see them sneaking around~ There's sort of a love triangle thing going on but I wouldn't worry over it. There's no established relationship to speak of therefore no cheating or lying of any kind occurs. It's really about a girl figuring out if what she knows is what she wants. I love that things played out in a proper respectable way. One thing I would've liked to see a bit more of was a closure on Dax's mom issue. It felt like a big deal but the storyline sort of fizzles out. I guess some things are better left alone? Afterall, Autumn learnt that the hard way. I cannot recommend By Your Side enough or any other Kasie West books. They're amazing, fast-paced and honestly just a lot of fun to read. As a favourite author of mine I will always read her books. Always.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Review from This is the Story of My(Reading) Life DNF @31% Guys, I just did something shocking. I marked a Kasie West book as "DNF". I can't even. But you know what? I haven't touched the book in two months. Haven't even thought about. That first 31% was hell to get through too. I thought I was going to love this one based on the premise of getting stuck in the library with a cute guy(and it being a Kasie West book). Apparently, that's not all it's cracked up to be. Autumn(the MC) is a moron. The story of her getting stuck in the library makes no sense. Like absolutely zero. It makes it impossible to believe. Plus all the reasons she can't get out or no one has come looking for her, also ridiculous. I don't even like Dax. Although if I could have stood to be in Autumn's head, Dax would have been the reason that I kept reading. I feel like he has a much better/interesting story than Autumn and her superficial worries. I mean, Jesus women, this guy(Dax) is telling you he holes up in the library because his foster family are terrible people and he can't stay there. And you're worried about getting yourself out because your best friend might be trying to "steal" your crush from you. Dax is literally begging you not to try and call the police and you can't think about him. Nah, girl is petty and selfish. I don't need to read about another spoiled brat who is shown the error of her ways by a poor kid with a tragic life. I'm sure there are parts I'll like, but I just can't bring myself to care enough about Autumn and her getting to a better place by the end of the book. I'll just assume she'll continue to be a jerk to Dax and not see how shitty her friends are for 85% of the story. Hard pass.
