When Janet passed away on November 22, 2010, at 48 years young, she left behind a small collection of poetry she had written in 1997, during incarceration at Toronto West Detention Center. It was a window into her struggle as a woman who knew the streets too well, who longed for cocaine, missed her children and her mother, and wanted nothing more than to be loved. Her words ring true for a lot of struggling women, but moral of it is that with determination she won, and finally found peace in the end.
