Shani Mootoo's haunting and evocative debut novel, called "a story of magical power" by Alice Munro, has taken the international literary world by storm. Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful cereus Cereus Blooms At Night is exactly as it is described on the back cover, bold and lyrical. The story starts in the present and works its way back to the circumstances that led up to the future conditions of the main character, Mala. I must warn that it may seem slow in the beginning but it is worth the read as the tale develops, the ending is truly tragic and remarkable. I cannot wait until Shani Mootoo releases further works of literature.
