Faith Usher talked about taking her own life and even kept cyanide in her purse. So when she died from a lethal champagne cocktail in the middle of a high society dinner party, everyone called it suicide—including the police. But Nero Wolfe isn’t convinced—and neither is Archie. Especially when Wolfe is warned by four men against taking the case. Deception, blackmail, and a killer who may have pulled off the perfect crime…it’ s a challenge Nero Wolfe can’t resist.
Rex Stout (1886–1975) wrote dozens of short stories, novellas, and full-length mystery novels, most featuring his two indelible characters, the peerless detective Nero Wolfe and his handy sidekick, Archie Goodwin.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old-fashioned mystery at it's best Rejoice, dear mystery lover, for you have discovered Rex Stout, one of the most delicious treats the genre has to offer. Not only will you meet the wonderfully eccentric Nero Wolfe (perhaps the ultimate in 'armchair detectives') but you will also hear the tough-guy (and often deftly funny) narration of Archie Goodwin, who meets the people and collects the clues that his boss then turns into masterpieces of deduction. Not to mention the setting -- the best of thirty years of New York, in one strangely timeless package. The pick of all possible mystery genres -- and some really neat mysteries, too, not too complex but mostly hugely satisfying, in the old-fashioned style. There are about thirty or so titles, many currently out of print; get thee to a second-hand store immediately.
