Rated 4 out of 5 by from a classic It's been years since I read this book. What I remember is that Charlotte the spider seemed to be very loved and had much respect from the animals on the farm. The little girl in the story loves the animals and saves a little pig. Later her father, the farmer, was going to slaughter the pig, but Charlotte cleverly spins a message in her web and opinions change. The ending is very sad but it's a very good story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Childhood Favorite Charlotte's Web is a classic children's story with rich imagination, characters and plot. It is a beautiful story that will touch the heart of any child and would make a lovely edition to any child's library. This audiobook read and performed by the author is a magical experience for children. His deep and unique voice gives incredible life to the characters of this story. I have memories of hearing this audio recording when I was a child 20 years ago on cassette tape, this updated version is just as wonderful and worth every penny.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simple Heart-warming Story, if not Dated The story itself is simple, so younger readers will find it easy to get into. While simple in nature, the story does a good job of making the reader feel an emotional connection with the characters and their situations. However, in today's world some of the concepts are no longer considered acceptable. The character Fern, in particular, cannot be considered a positive role model for young girls. The story is simple, heart-warming, and easy to read, but has some dated ideas behind it that detract the reader from the story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from summery of charlotte's web After sparing the life of a piglet almost killed, a little girl named Fern Arable raises it lovingly, naming it Wilbur. During adulthood, Wilbur is sold to Fern's uncle, Homer Zuckerman, he is left craving for companionship but is dishonored by other barn animals, until charlotte made friends with a barn spider named Charlotte, living on a web, watching Wilbur's actions. Upon Wilbur's discovery that he will be killed, she promises to hatch a plan guaranteed to make his life last longer. Accordingly she secretly piles words that describe him into her web, attracting more people to convine Zuckerman not to kill him. As time passes, more words appear on Charlotte's webs, increasing his life. Therefore Wilbur is entered in the county fair, attended by Charlotte and the rat, Templeton, when she employs in gathering inspiration for her messages. During the fair, Charlotte spins an egg sac containing her unborn baby, and Wilbur, despite winning no prizes, is later celebrated by the fair's staff and visitors, Charlotte remains at the fair and dies shortly after Wilbur's disappearance. Having returned to Zuckerman's farm, Wilbur guards Charlotte's egg sac, and is concerned further when the new spiders leave shortly after hatching, leaving behind their three smallest. Pleased at finding new friends, Wilbur names the spider lings Joy, Nellie, and Aranea, and the book concludes mentioning that more generations of spiders kept him company in following years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Read Children's Classic! Reason for Reading: Read aloud to ds. I'll keep this one short. There must be thousand's of reviews already of this modern classic. The edition that I have is the hardcover reprint with the gently colourized original illustration by Rosemary Wells, a beautiful book and a keeper for my personal library. This was my first re-read since my original reading as a child and it struck me again as being a wonderful book so full of feeling, even though I'd seen the cartoon movie year after year as a child. I was surprised that Fern wasn't really that big a part of the story as I had expected her to be and Templeton was all Paul Lynde to me. I heard his voice every time he spoke! This was my son's first exposure to Charlotte's Web. I've kept him away from the new version of the movie purposely until we'd read the book and the animated version just doesn't show up on TV like it used to. I wouldn't say say he absolutely loved it. He didn't cry are feel bad at the end, at all. It was very much "c'est la vie" for him. But he did laugh at all the funny parts and enjoyed Wilbur as a character the most. Oh, and the geese, he loved their double talk! So he enjoyed the book and we've got a hold on the animated movie version at the library to watch and will watch the newer real life version if he's interested afterwards for comparison. (I personally do not like talking animal movies). For myself it was a great enjoyment to re-acquaint myself with the original book and remember why E.B. White was such a beloved children's author. Why did he have to leave us with only three children's books, though?? That is the sad part. The Trumpet of the Swan is still my favourite of the three.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific! I don't really know what to say, this book is simply a classic, my grade 3 teacher made us read this novel and ever since I've loved it! It doesn't matter how many times you read it it still seems fresh! A must read for anyone!

But the question is will it work will she acheive her promise you will have to read it to know!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Story Having a dual form of dyslexia I did not learn to read until later in life. Thus I never read children’s books while a child. Maybe that is why I read so many still today. I read this as part of a children’s literature course in university. It is an interesting book, about friendship, commitment, compassion, change and death. As such it deals with a lot of the big questions of life in ways a child can grasp. For me the most moving part was when Wilber confessed to Charlotte that he did not like the thought of her as a blood sucker, towards the end of her life. Only true friends can be that open and honest. The book is a powerful tale of true friendship and how our close friends can transform not only us but those around us. (First written as Journal Reading Notes in 1999.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SOME BOOK If someone asked me to read a book about talking animals that wasn't "Animal Farm", I'd probably laugh in their face. But after reading this I'd seriously have to reconsider. EB White took something as simple as a pig who is meant to be eaten, and escalated it into a story about friendship, loss, and courage. Although Charlotte is only a spider, she is one of the greatest heroines I have read about in children's lit (and possibly in adult lit as well).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pig-erific I fell in love with this book the first time i read it, when i was in gr, 3 i think that i have read it over 25 times in the past 2 years. I felt as though when i read it that the stroy was really real that charlotte could talk and help. It made me see spiders in an other light! It is i think a true work of art. ANd the best part is that it is great for any child of any age, even adults would like it. I think that if you haven't read this book, that you should because even though it is make believe it help you understand life and the goodness of people. When i first read it i came to school the next day and told everyoen that charlotte was my best friend. My peers just looked at me funny, but that is the way the book makes you feel.. like all the characters are your best friends and for the time that you read that book they let you in their perfect world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charlotte's Web Love transforms us all. There is no way that one can read about the love that Wilbur has for Charlotte and not be changed in some way forever. It is a love that celebrates difference. It is a love that survives, despite complications, beyond Charlotte's short life. I make sure to give a copy of this book to all the important young people in my life. It is the best book I've ever read because of its message that all beings are worthy of love.
