The Great War has ended at last. No longer must archaeologist Amelia Peabody and her husband, Emerson, the distinguished Egyptologist, fear for the life of their daring son, Ramses, now free from his dangerous wartime obligations to British Intelligence. But in the aftermath of conflict, evil still casts a cold shadow over violence-scarred Egypt. The theft of valuable antiquities from the home of a friend causes great concern in the Emerson household. Ramses’s strange encounter with a woman costumed in the veil and gold crown of the goddess Hathor only deepens the mystery. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still in love with the Emersons! Another fun, exciting installment of the adventures of the ever-expanding Emerson family! When the family, now including not only Ramses, Nefret and their two twins, but David and Lia and THEIR two children, plus Sethos, now part of the family too upon his conversion from a life of crime, arrives in Egypt for the new season, they hope - as always - for a season of simple archeological expeditions. Alas, it is not to be. When Cyrus is the victim of theft of several precious artifacts from the huge find from his site, the Emersons try to help, since the apparent thief was recommended to Cyrus by Sethos. It soon becomes clear that more is going on - well, really, isn't is ALWAYS, with the Emersons? - and that danger lurks from unknown sources. But no one, not even Amelia is certain who is the target or who are the evil persons who have malice aforethought directed to the extended Emerson family. With the expansion of the family to the next generation, Elizabeth Peters has once again done a wonderful job of creating delightful, clever, entertaining characters that you can't help but fall in love with. I truly never tire of the Amelia Peabody books, and each new book brings new enjoyments! Amelia and her family always deliver a great read.
