Rated 3 out of 5 by from Found some of it interesting, but lost interest at other parts 3.5 stars 15-year old Alexander's mom has cancer. She has to go away to be treated, so Alexander and his sisters are sent to stay with their grandparents (Alexander with his scary grandmother, Kate, and his sisters with their other grandparents) for a while. While Alexander is there, Kate has a trip to the Amazon planned, so Alexander comes along, and has an adventure he never would have expected. I really liked it at the start and a little way into the book, but in the middle, once the fantasy elements were added in, that's where I lost interest. Once the fantasy stuff was mostly out of the storyline again, once again, I was more interested. So, how much I liked it depended on what part of the book I was reading at the time! (It's probably obvious I'm not a fan of fantasy, or this type of fantasy, anyway.) So, I'm going to average out the 4 stars of really liking the parts that didn't involve the fantasy elements and losing some interest during those parts and rate it “good”, 3.5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from city of beasts City of beasts is a very good combination of myth and modern as Alex and Nadia go on a journey to discover who they really are. This is a very good book and kept me wrapped up throughout the story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What was the book about??? The book tells and brings an authentic image of the city to the magnificent forest in Amazon. I had never imagined the forest with mystical creatures such detailed and memo graphic like this books’ description. Although the plot of the story was clear there was a great, unexpected twist at the end. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who likes to expand their imagination. The book offers an adventure never to be forgotten. As Alex and Nadia (the main characters) were learning from each other, they have shown an effort of bravery and friendship and loyalty not only to themselves but also reflected to others. YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!!! It’s magical!
