Clairvoyant Cassie Plamer has inherited new magical powers-including the ability to travel through time. But it's a whole lot of responsibility she'd rather not have. Now she's the most popular girl in town, as an assortment of vamps, fey, and mages try to convince, force, or seduce her-and her magic-over to their side. But one particular master vampire didn't ask what Cassie wanted before putting a claim on her. He had a spell cast that binds her to him, and now she doesn't know if what she feels for him is real-or imagined...
Karen Chance has lived in France, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, but always comes back to America. She currently lives in Central Florida, the home of make-believe, which may explain a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Claimed By Shadows This is an urban fantasy with a twist. First book has a lot of information that might not stick at first but as the story progresses everything falls in to place. I love this series and highly recommend it to fantasy lovers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Never a dull moment Karen's writing style can be somewhat hard to follow. Not that she is a bad writer, but her plots can sometimes be a little too involved. This book takes place over little more than a day and yet it's a good 400 or so pages long. That's a lot of space to fill with only the events of 24 hours. It's almost too much. There are very few opportunities to put the book down, which can be frustrating. Especially if you haven't been able to read for a day or two. You lose the momentum of the story. That being said, I did enjoy the book. Chance has developed her own unique take on the supernatural world and I love how she has taken history, myth and lore and woven it all together. I like her characters, and I love that she hasn't gone with the typical stereotype of all vampires being super models. The book ends on a suspenseful note, pulling you right into the next, with unsolved mysteries and problems, hints at future events, oh, and did I mention the sex? Great sex. What's a vamp novel without some steamy romance? Be prepared to read this book fast. If you don't have time to dedicate to it every day, don't start it. It is a good book and should be enjoyed properly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great follow-up This book was much better than the first. Some of the problems that I had with the first book are not as bad here, like an overly analytical heroine (at most dangerously inappropriate moments) is not as pronounced. Also there is much more dialogue in this one and that is a huge improvement. The pace is pretty good and the plotting is great. I really enjoyed this one. Cassie is struggling with some of the choices in front of her and does make some decisions that made me think hmmm, but I actually liked the fact that she reacts as an average person would. (well, sometimes). The book ends with lots of unresolved issues that I can’t wait to read about in the next two books that are out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great If you like a strong woman character, then this is a good series to read. Cassie is a strong, determined and stubborn character you'll love to go on this adventure with her. With her new power, the geis between her and Mircea, and Pritkin who is trying to help her with her with her new won't want to put this book down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Supernatural series - exciting, suspenseful and humourous This is the first in a series of books about Cassie - a girl who has run away from her guardian (who's a vampire) because she discovers he has been using her supernatural powers to commit murder and mayhem and profit from that. As the baddies come looking for her she goes on the run yet again, and in her flight she meets new (and hilariously weird) characters, and discovers she didn't really know the few friends she actually has all that well. Good plot, and well-developed supernatural world and characters. You do care what happens to Cassie and want to read the next book when you reach the end.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slow, but Good I thought this book was quite a bit slower than the last, but she did bring back characters from the previous book and that made it quite entertaining. This book explained a lot and introduced new twists and turns for the next book to work out. It may be slow but I will still read the next one, I think this series has very good potential and I am very excited to see where Karen Chance takes us in the next book.
