In a starred review, PW called the heroine of these riveting paranormal mysteries "a teen detective for the 21st century."

Clarity "Clare" Fern sees things. Things no one else can see. Things like stolen kisses and long-buried secrets. All she has to do is touch a certain object, and the visions come to her. It's a gift.

And a curse.

When a teenage girl is found murdered, Clare's ex-boyfriend wants her to help solve the case-but Clare is still furious at the cheating jerk. Then Clare's brother-who has supernatural gifts of his own-becomes the prime suspect, and Clare can no longer look away. Teaming up with Gabriel, the smoldering son of the new detective, Clare must venture into the depths of fear, revenge, and lust in order to track the killer. But will her sight fail her just when she needs it most?

KIM HARRINGTON lives in Massachusetts with her husband and son. When not writing, she's most likely reading, watching one of her favorite TV shows, or fantasizing about her next vacation. She has no psychic powers and is cool with that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really loved reading this novel I really liked this book it was well thought out and written, very compelling. I was not the typical suspense, it had the right amount of romance to suspense, without being a full out love story or gruesome horror story. I found it to be a very good summer read. I like this cover much better and I just finished the second book, the series will not let you down. I will keep reading them!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Absolutely a great book to read Clarity is not the style of books that I typically read, I was a little sceptical but I decided to give it a try and I'm So glad that I did. There's a lots of suspense, a love story and you will never guess which person is the killer. I hope to see a 2nd book and make this a series because I want to know and read much more about this story now... Enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Moody Teenager's Clarity Review READ MORE REVIEWS @ I picked up Clarity thinking it would be a simple read but little did I know that it was creating major buzz around the YA book world. And I completely understand why. Clarity was extremely well written, had a great plot, it was humorous and it had a great mystery. It had me trying to sole the mystery The mystery in the novel was crazy! Within the first few pages, there is a preface that is super intense and it keeps you guessing the whole time. At one point, you'd think "Okay that's the killer" and then you find it you completely missed the boat. I liked Clare's narration. She was refreshing and had a great sense of humour even though there was nothing funny about her situation. Her snarky comments were an added bonus. And there are boys. Many of them actually. Clare is surrounded by them, although some of them you may find creepy, sweet, brotherly or just plain hot, there is no shortage of XY chromosomes. And you'll definetly find yourself caught in the middle between two boys in particular: Gabriel and Justin. *swoon* (Despite Justin being one of the coolest and sweetest characters, I was rooting for Gabriel.) Talking about characters, I loved every single one of them, even though some of them were crazy wiatches. The best thing about Clare is her loyalty to her family, which I admired. BUT her hard headedness was quite a disappointment. I suppose not every character can be as perfect as you want them to be though. The ending of the novel wasn't exactly a cliff hanger, but it did leave much to the imagination and left me wanting more. Clarity is a dark and suspensful YA mystery book that you'll find hard to put down. Kim Harrington's debut novel definetly is a knockout! My hands were glued to the book! I can't wait for the sequel, Perception which is due in March 2012 from Scholastic/Point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Murder Mystery With A Touch of the Paranormal! Ever since I first heard about Clarity, I've been dying to read the novel, drawn into a plot-line that sounded so intriguing and absolutely loving its gorgeous cover! With such high hopes for the novel, I had certain expectations... and I was so glad to see that Clarity met them. Kim Harrington's debut novel delivers in the best of ways, offering a story that's both fresh and fun while also daring you to solve a murder mystery where anyone could be a suspect. Clare's family is not so typical- her mother can read minds, her brother's a medium... and as for Clare herself, she can see visions of the past from objects she touches. Living in Eastport, a town on Cape Cod, townies regard her family as freaks while tourists love them, visiting their family business where they give psychic readings. But when a teenage girl is found murdered in a hotel, the mayor's son- and Clare's ex-boyfriend- Justin asks for Clare's help in solving the case. Working with the new-in-town detective's son Gabriel, Clare's determined to use her abilities to help catch the murderer... especially when the top suspect becomes her very own brother Perry. Clare is like any teenage girl except with the added bonus of having a cool gift. Her abilities have made it almost impossible for her to make friends with others her age, so she's closest to her brother and his own best friend Nate. Armed with a snarky attitude, she's quick to defend herself and loved ones against those who frown about her family's special abilities. She takes no nonsense from anyone and she's not afraid of showing it! Her brother Perry may be a player but he's not an outright jerk or anything. You can see the close brother-sister bond between Perry and Clare, and how they look out for one another, so you're just torn for Clare when she hears that Perry is suspected of murder. And oh my, the boys! Clare is surrounded by them! You'll be seriously torn between two in particular though... Justin and Gabriel. Neither of the boys are perfect and that just made me love them all the more. I was expecting to hate Justin on the spot since he's the ex and all but he took me by surprise. He made a mistake in the past that Clare can't forgive him for, but we see how he would do anything to fix it. And then there's Gabriel, who's skeptic of Clare's gift and her credibility to her dismay, yet these two also have an undeniable attraction as well! With a touch of the paranormal and some very hot boys to find yourself falling for, Clarity is a great YA murder mystery that you'll find yourself immensely enjoying! Dark and suspenseful at times, and light and humourous at others... I'm sure you'll love the novel! If it's any comfort to you, there isn't a major cliff-hanger at the end of the novel, but the events do leave off on a note which suggests nothing is final and that there's definitely more in store for Clare in the future. I'm definitely eagerly anticipating the second novel, Perception, next March 2012 to see what's in store for Clare next! You can also read this review at:

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dreaming of Books Review (May Contain Spoilers) Every member of the Fern family has some for of psychic ability and they use their abilities in their family business where they do psychic readings. That is until a tourist is murdered and Clare finds out that the main suspect might be her own brother. To clear her brother‘s name, Clare decides use her ability to help the police find the killer. Clare is snaky, honest and speaks her mind. She can touch an object and see some of the memories associated with it, her brother Perry can communicate with spirits and her mother can read people’s minds. They have great family dynamic. They hang out together and they talk to each other about things…plus there’s no hiding anything from their mother anyways. Gabriel is new in town and is also the son of the new police chief. He’s helping his dad by working on the case with Clare. He’s wary of Clare and her family because he doesn’t believe in psychics. Justin is Clarity’s ex-boyfriend and he’s a great guy. They broke up because he did something terrible that hurt Clare and so far she hasn’t been able to forgive him for it. But he’s able to prove time and time again that he still cares deeply for her. There is the usual love triangle and I like both guys so really wasn’t able to pick one over the other. Clarity is Kim Harrington’s debut novel and it did not disappoint. The murder mystery was full of suspense with lots of speculation over who the killer is. At first I wasn’t sure who it was and didn’t know who to believe because Perry did some things that really made him look suspicious. And of course I always get these things wrong so was surprised by who it turned out to be. Readers, this is another one to add to your reading list and if you’re a fan of The Body Finder will devour this as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charmed "Yeah, I was Clare Fern, tough psychic chick, member of the freak family. But if they stripped all those labels off, people might be shocked to find a normal girl beneath. Who doesn't want to spend her days on the defensive. Who wants what everyone else wants. To be loved." Immediately upon reading the first page of this novel I was pulled in. Charmed. Captivated. There are a million words I could use to describe this novel but I'll just use one, short and simple. Incredible. From the storyline, characters right down to the flow of the writing, everything in this book was near perfect. Let me break it down for you. Storyline: Unique and extremely suspenseful. I was flipping through the pages so fast I am surprised they didn't start smoking. Kim Harrington penned such a perfect blend of murder, mystery, suspense and romance. It was a wonderful combination and they all complimented each other great. Everything molded into each other, you aren't jumping from one scenario to the next. The way the entire book flowed was flawless. Characters: Let me just say that right after reading the synopsis for this book, I knew Clare was going to be a character I would fall in love with. What I didn't know was how much I would relate to her. No, I don't have physic powers(Though that would be awesome) but it was her personality that I related to. She is a regular, down to earth girl that was blessed with a gift. Although she doesn't let her gift determine who she is, it's not the easy for the people around her. Classmates and neighbours seem to judge her as a "Freak" because of her ability. She is a fantastic character, and will stay with you long after you've finished the book. Clare is not the only great character. Almost the entire character cast has a quality that will either make you love em' or hate em'. Writing: The writing style was just right. She gave Clarity such a great sense of humour that provided many laugh out loud moments. Apart from creating such a great character in Clare. She was able to get inside the mind of each person perfectly. No character blended. She was able to make each character an individual. I think its obvious to see how much I loved this book. It was a fantastic, fun read. And left me wanting more when I was finished. Clarity is a book that I definitely foresee in your future! What I loved: Uh..Everything! What I disliked: Nothing, except that I have to wait till 2012 for the next book in the series, Perception. *Orginially posted on my blog 'The Crazy Bookworm'
