Welcome to an alternate Canada, where steam technology and the wonders and horrors of the mechanical age have reshaped the past into something both wholly familiar yet compellingly different. These fifteen supercharged all-new tales reimagine Canadian historical events, explore other Canadas, and gather inspiration from the northern landscape to make us wonder: what if history had gone a different way?
Dominik Parisien is an editor, poet, and writer. He is the co-editor, with Navah Wolfe, of The Starlit Wood and several other anthologies. He has worked on anthologies with Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, including The Time Traveler’s Almanac, Sisters of the Revolution, and The Bestiary.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A surprising find After reading this seems like more of a cool idea. Most of the stories were only mildly interesting (the writing itself was generally decent but nothing mind blowing) with only a few really standing out. I like the historical setting since it opened up for really more niche groups (metis, fur traders), but there definitely wasn't enough of the punk part of steampunk. I'd say buy it and share it with friends since it's so unusual.

Editorial Reviews

“This is Canadian fiction like you’ve never seen it before: a buzzing, crackling, supercharged assemblage of thrills and derring-do, secret histories, incredible machines and fantastical creatures. Prepare yourself for a wild ride through a landscape that’s somehow recognizable and utterly, gloriously strange.” — Helen Marshall, Shirley Jackson Award-winning author of Gifts For The One Who Comes After
