This unit serves as a means for students to explore various aspects of the popular culture of the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Students will be encouraged to communicate with parents, guardians, grandparents, and other adults to learn about life in past decades. Students will see how some trendshave been repeated over the years and how they have become popular once again. Historic events, fashion, cars, popular social activities, Francophone music, and dances are all discussed through reading and listening activities. Final Task: Students work in small groups to create a presentation of the popular culture of a chosen decade to an audience. Students will choose four to five categories from the following: news events, fashion and style, cars, music, and dance. Presentations may involve dancing, PowerPoint forvideo slides, background music or composed music, student artwork, dramatic voices, or acting.The workbooks support the core activities, and provide opportunities for students to practise language.
