This single volume brings together all of Poe's stories and poems, and illuminates the diverse and multifaceted genius of one of the greatest and most influential figures in American literary history.

From the Hardcover edition.

There has never been any doubt about Poe's enormous literary significance, but, with regard to his ultimate artistic merit, there has been considerable disagreement. To some he is little more than a successful charlatan, whose literary performances are only a virtuoso's display of stunning, but finally shallow, effects. Others, however...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection Need I say more? Not only the poetry, all of which I love, but even the short stories are just brilliant! We did a study on some of those in my horror fiction class in high school, and I must say that we were all more than a little impressed--and chilled! Poe remains to this day my favourite poet, and also a master of the short horror story. "Fall of the House of Usher" is by far my favourite. <3

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Brilliant I have loved Poe's unusually dark writing with his creative tales since I was probably too young for them, but I was always drawn to Poe. Amazing collection

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's ok Good price, but the formatting is a bit hard to read, the text is a little too small and close together

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horror? I think not. 1000 pages of tiny writing, many boring and nonsensical stories, and an author who takes description to a whole new level of boring. Given that most of the book is short stories, I should have been able to pick the book up at long intervals and sped through one or two tales. However, out of the 73 short stories there were possibly 5 that I found well-written and interesting enough to speed through. The rest referenced too many things; greek, latin, possibly italian, as well as current events, and since I can't speak all languages of the world, and was not alive in the 1800s, these stories totally confused me. Admittedly, there is some awesome stuff in there, but I would never buy this collection, or read most of it again. I really wish he stuck with only poetry, because it's obvious he excels there.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe In this edition you will find the complete stories and poems of the master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe. Poe was one of the forerunners of horror and darkly themed literature. His stories are not simply disturbing they are excellent portraits of the inner workings of man. His poems are not simply sorrowful they are masterfully written pieces of the human soul. This volume is essential to every bookshelf.
