Considered one of the Lost Generation writers, Dos Passos' (1896-1970) first novel was published in 1920. Titled ONE MAN'S INITIATION--1917, it drew upon Dos Passos' experiences as an ambulance driver in World War I and was followed by another antiwar story, THREE SOLDIERS, which brought him considerable recognition.

Three Soldiers (1921)
Rosinante to the Road Again (1922)
A Pushcart at the Curb (1922)
One Man's Initiation—1917 (1922)
The Anglo-Saxon Century and the Unification of the English-Speaking People

Three Soldiers (1921)
The most enthusiastically praised and cordially damned book of the year. One of the key American war novels of the First World War, Three Soldiers remains a classic of the realist war novel genre -- a novel in which the author presents a bitter invective against what he conceives as the tyranny, misery, and degradation of life in the American army during the great war.

Rosinante to the Road Again (1922)
A book that throbs with the zest for life, a colorful, flavorful account of a walking trip through the land of Don Quixote. It stamps indelibly an impression of Spain, Spanish nights, Spanish capacity for life, decadence, genius.
