Whitman spent his entire life writing Leaves of Grass, revising it in several editions until his death." This edition of Dickinson's poems is based on on the first published collection, edited by Mabel Loomis Todd and T.W. Higginson, which was released in three "series", the first of which appeared in 1890. Hence includes the edits made by Todd and Higginson and is missing some poems that were first published much later.
