My guide to making you a better cook.
I can't tell you how long I've dreamed about writing this book. It's the biggest book I've ever done, and I've really tried to make it a timeless, modern-day classic. Whether you're a student, a young couple, an established cook, or a novice, I'll take you through a whole load of simple and accessible recipes that will blow the socks off your family and any guests you might have round for dinner. There's information on the equipment that I think you should have in your kitchen, advice on how to recognize and cook loads of different cuts of meat, as well as on how to get the best value and quality when you're out shopping. With all of us consuming more processed food than ever, it's a sad fact that most people just aren't confident enough to cook anymore. With this in mind, now is the time for you to get stuck in and reclaim your fantastic cooking heritage!

You know what . . . if you're going to eat three times a day for the rest of your life, you might as well learn to cook properly and enjoy it! So roll up your sleeves and let me help you.

P.S.: By the way, you should feel good about buying this book because every single penny I make from it will go toward training and inspiring young kids from tough backgrounds all over the world to have a career in food through the Fifteen Foundation. So on behalf of them, thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from One of his best books... We own MANY Jamie Oliver books, from his early days to more recent times. If all of them, this is the one I go back to again and again. I love the explanations and stories -- greatly improved my confidence in creating new recipes from the basics. Great book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Book to Learn From I love Jamie Oliver and I bought this book because it's so comprehensive. Before I cooked anything from it I read it front to back because it's really an awesome book to learn from! Jamie's goal of "making you a better cook" is definitely successful. There's charts that show you which part of the animal different cuts of meat come from, as well as great articles teaching you about food. There are TONS of step-by-step photos so you can actually "see" what you're supposed to be doing. Sometimes there's also links to his website for video content to better demonstrate a certain technique. Oh, and for the record, the recipes are outstanding too!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite cookbook!! This is by far the most used cookbook on my shelf. Jamie Oliver gives some great tips with his recipes that even a very experienced home cook can learn something from. This book has a nice blend of recipes (some are really quick, others are a bit more involved). Every recipe that I've tried in this book has turned out beautifully. The photography in this book is also excellent. I love, love, love this book!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hear His Message This isn't just another cookbook. Although the basic idea of this volume is meant to be a down to earth lesson on how to buy, prep and cook meats, fish and vegetables in this definitive guide, it is much more than that. Throughout this book, he challenges us to rethink what we eat, to take a good look at the ingredients before we even buy them, and to ask ourselves if they are truly good enough. By raising the bar on the quality of the ingredients, I couldn't help but feel that same need to raise the quality of all other aspects of life. I can't help but enjoy life much better as a result. He truly is inspiring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best cook book I've used in years The recipes are so simple and my family loves them. Working full time leaves very little time to cook. It's so nice to be able to give my family good tasting healthy meals that take little to no time to make. With a nice range of dishes you don't have to have the same thing week after week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Cookbook I love Jamie's recipes, casual style and commitment to community. I first met him a few years ago when he was planning Fifteen, the restaurant where he trains tough kids to have a career in food. He accomplished that and much more. Profits from this book go to the Fifteen Foundation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not for Beginners, but you will most likely learn something new. I've been a long-time fan of Jamie Oliver's relaxed, yet exploratory cooking style. In this book, while he does cover a lot of the basics, the book is not basic enough for a truly beginner cook (he loves to tell you to use a "glug" of this and a "dash" of that, which can be intimidating to non-cooks). However, if you are even remotely adventurous in your tastes, or want to be, Jamie does have a wonderful way of making you want to try new things and making them sound easy to prepare. Love the addition of wine suggestions (by type rather than label) by Mark Skinner...a fabulous help if you're not a wine expert. Due to the fact that this book has a very conversational style, I found that I read it from cover to cover. Learned quite a few new things, and made me want to go out and try cooking with a few more unusual (for me, anyway) foods. Would highly recommend this book for anyone who is a novice cook, but wants to take things up a notch, or even for the more experienced cook who would appreciate a few new, usually easy-to-prepare recipes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good starter book I haven't seen him on T.V. or read any of his other books, but I'm finding this to be very interesting and informative, as well as spectacularly illustrated. I plan to try the recipes soon. It's nice because he explains how things go together and what different things taste like, such as some of the more unusual salad greens or the different types of oils. This is the book where all proceeds are being donated to charity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best cook book. I picked this up about a year ago when in the UK. All the recipes are precise, easy to follow and are brilliant. As he writes in the introduction, this should have been his first book because it teaches you how to cook rather than just a bunch of recipes.

As you use this book you feel as if Jamie is right beside you teaching you just like his fifteen restuaruants. I can't say anything about this book except "Buy It! Buy IT Now!"
