Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you buy only ONE cook book, make it this one!! "The Cook's Book" is exactly what this is! What a fabulous collection of hints, tips, secrets from chefs, how-tos, fix-its & recipes.....all rolled up in one easy-to-follow book. Complete with step-by-step instructions -- and pictures -- it will make a pro out of you, too! And each technique that you learn is supplemented with fabulous recipes to help you along your way.... I've been collecting recipes and cook books for over 30 years, so it takes a bit to "wow" me anymore. The credentials of all the modern-day Master Chefs that contributed to this book managed to do that -- and that was only the first introductionary pages. We've all read recipes that require a roux or beurre manie; or maybe you have to clarify butter or a consomme stock; how about deveining or deglazing properly; or a Mirepoix -- if you don't know how to do these things accurately, then the recipe becomes a problem and you probably won't try to make it. But, remove some of these obstables -- eh voila! -- you are the master chef of your own kitchen. "The Cook's Book" does just that, so whether you are a veteran (who might need a few technique touch-ups) or a novice (who wants to learn properly) -- this is the book for you!
