Putnam | November 27, 2013 | Hardcover

Copper Beach: A Dark Legacy Novel is rated 3 out of 5 by 1.

A rare book. An ancient code. An all-new novel from the New York Times-bestselling master of passion and the paranormal.

Within the pages of very rare books some centuries old lie the secrets of the paranormal. Abby Radwell's unusual psychic talent has made her an expert in such volumes-and sometimes taken her into dangerous territory. After a deadly incident in the private library of an obsessive collector, Abby receives a blackmail threat, and rumors swirl that an old alchemical text known as The Key has reappeared on the black market.

Convinced that she needs an investigator who can also play bodyguard, she hires Sam Coppersmith, a specialist in paranormal crystals and amber-"hot rocks." Passion flares immediately between them, but neither entirely trusts the other. When it comes to dealing with a killer who has paranormal abilities, and a blackmailer who will stop at nothing to obtain an ancient alchemical code, no one is safe.

Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light, fluffy paranormal romance/suspense - good beach or cottage-fare “This was a good first entry in Krentz's new paranormal series. Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun read if you want light, fluffy and fast-and-easy to read. Abby Radwell has a unique paranormal talent - she can unlock paranormal books which have been protected from prying eyes to keep their secrets. When word goes out that a long-sought-after and very dangerous paranormal book has become available a number of shadowy and unsavoury individuals want it. Not only do they want Abby to find the book for them, they also want her to unlock its secrets for them. Abby quickly realizes she needs someone to protect her as she tries to figure out what to do about the book, so on the advice of her mentor, she hires Sam Coppersmith, a member of a wealthy family and a paranormal expert in crystals as a bodyguard. But Sam has his own connection to the mysterious book everyone wants so he an Abby make a deal to both get what they want. This book is a bit predictable, and there's nothing terribly original or unexpected in it, but if you like light paranormal fiction with a bit of romance, this is a good example of that. I was intrigued by the concept of paranormal books with psychic locks on them, and would have liked more detail about the books, and and process of unlocking them, but hopefully Krentz will expand that aspect in future entries in this series
