about

"There's rich, there's filthy rich, and then there's crazy rich . . . A Pride and Prejudice-like send-up about an heir bringing his Chinese-American girlfriend home to meet his ancestor-obsessed family, the book hilariously skewers imperial splendor and the conniving antics of the Asians jet set." --People
When Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home, long drives to explore the island, and quality time with the man she might one day marry. What she doesn't know is that Nick's family home happens to look like a palace, that she'll ride in more private planes than cars, and that with one of Asia's most eligible bachelors on her arm, Rachel might as well have a target on her back. Initiated into a world of dynastic splendor beyond imagination, Rachel meets Astrid, the It Girl of Singapore society; Eddie, whose family practically lives in the pages of Hong Kong Tatler; and Eleanor, Nick's formidable mother, a woman who has very strong feelings about who her son should--and should not--marry. Uproarious, addictive, and filled with jaw-dropping opulence, Crazy Rich Asians is an insider's look at the Asian Jet Set, a perfect depiction of the clash between old money and new money, between Overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese, and a fabulous novel about what it means to be young, in love, and gloriously, disgustingly rich.
Born and raised in Singapore, KEVIN KWAN has worked for Martha Stewart Living and Interview Magazine and in 1998 joined M&Co, where he developed commercial and cultural projects for such clients as The Museum of Modern Art, Vitra, and The New York Times. Kwan is the co-author of the nonfiction special markets hit Luck: The Essential Gu...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Read Good choice if you are looking to take a break from more of a serious/dramatic read. The book is better than the movie.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Drama Drama Drama Crazy Rich Asians follows Rachel Chu who decides to go on holiday to Singapore with her boyfriend to be his wedding date and meet his parents. IF only everything were that simple. Upon arriving Rachel finds out that her boyfriend Nick hasn't exactly explained everything about himself. His family is extremely wealthy (which is a bit of an understatement) and Rachel struggles with how to fit in. I enjoyed this novel and would definitely recommend it. Although I found that I was more in love with the alternate plot lines that were happening. My favourite character was Nick's cousin Astrid. I was more interested in how she grew up and her family situation and more concerned about her finding love than Nick and Rachel. There were other characters as well that I adored more than the main characters. Even then I really liked Rachel but found Nick to be kind of spineless for a majority of the novel. The dynamic of the rich and richer was interesting to read about. There were those who flaunted their wealth and those who were even richer who wanted to protect their privacy. On one last note I need to mention the food. The descriptions left me drooling and starving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Book before the Movie A must read before watching the film!! Such a funny and engaging book

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Book This book was fun and I enjoyed reading it! I'm excited to read the rest of this series!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun! This book was so much fun to read! I really liked the characters and their different perspectives. I didn't want the story to end and immediately bought the next two books in the series because I couldn't wait to find out what happens to them! My only complaint about this book is that there are a lot of characters and it was sometimes difficult to keep them straight...the book was a lot easier to read in paperback than in ebook because it allowed you to easily flip back and forth between the story and the list of characters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Drama galore! We all love a story that's juicy and filled with gossip and scandals. Loved how I got to read a book covering scandals with Asians and their scandalous and glamorous lives. Would say there were so many characters that it was hard to keep up with who's who (there's a family tree in the front to help). Not a big deal as can see this trilogy being books I would read more than once to catch more details each time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't Put It Down This one hovered between a 4 and 5 star read for me, but I had to push it over the edge to a 5-star read because there is literally nothing bad that I can say about this book. The writing was fantastic. I loved the characters, I loved the relationships between them, I loved reading about the intricacies of leading such a lavish lifestyle (who gets seen with whom, who's wearing what, etc). It's quite a lifestyle to lead: none of your decisions are really your own; they all exist for the purposes of keeping up appearances. This is a rare read in which the setting is as much a character in the novel as any of the people. The various Asian cities and countries are described in such detail that they take on an important role of their own. I wasn't able to put this one down, and even ordered the two following books in the trilogy before I finished this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Couldn't put the book down I was laughing before Chapter 1. I normally read mystery and science fiction, however this book came to my attention as the movie came out. The title was intriguing and the written book is always better than movie versions... I thought I would give the book a read. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thoroughly Enjoyable I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did as this isn't usually the genre I lean towards- however I found myself laughing out loud constantly and I was genuinely interested in what was going to happen to Rachael and Nick's relationship. The scandalous gossip and name-dropping of fashion labels were fun touches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful! Saw the movie and wanted to read the book. Fantastic love story!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I wish I could get back the time I spent reading this book There is way too much time afforded to describing what people are wearing and reactions to "climactic" events are ridiculously overly dramatic. Characters are one-dimensional (since the most important thing about them is the clothing brands they have on) and apparently everyone has the emotional intelligence of a spoiled 16 year old girl. I was bored. I will say that if you like rom-com, Gossip Girl-esque entertainment, then you probably would like this book. This particular genre just happens to not be my cup of tea (to each their own). I'm happy to see more Asian representation in pop culture though so hopefully this demonstrates the marketability of more nuanced cultural commentary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from phenomenal A round of applause for Kwan please. I've had this book on hold at the library for quite a while, and when I found out it was going to be a movie I was rather disappointed because I thought the hype surrounding the book and movie might cause me to dislike the book because I'd be comparing it to this grand spectacle. But this book was good. Kwan is an extremely talented writer. The descriptions, the friend, family, and frenemy dynamics are written so perfectly. The gossipy culture... wow. Such a great read, looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Book!!! Loved this book! Never a boring moment, with some humor and great story. Would recommend it. On the top of my fav book list. Running out to get the rest of the trilogy. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favourite summer read! I loved this book, and the rest of the trilogy. Its gossip girl, meets the real housewives, meets keeping up with the Kardashians, but with waaay more money! Its gossipy, snarky, and everything you would want in a good summer read. The only downside I found was that it was difficult to keep track of all the characters and connections between each (despite Kwan's family tree positioned at the beginning of the book).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sooo funny! Read this book summer last year and I still remember how funny it is! The movie is great but imho no where near touches the extravagance and wealth that the young family actually has in the books. Totally a feel-good, fairy-tale, and heartwarming book :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am in LOVE! This is such a funny and witty book, I love the way the author writes. The East Asian stereotypes and Cantonese used are so true and funny, so on point and relatable. Thank you for poking fun them all, Kevin Kwan. An easy and addictive read!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I love this! They've done a lot of promoting for this book and with the release of the movie. I decided to buy the book before watching it live on the big screen and so far it has not disappointed me. The book is cute and very entertaining. Vey focused on the asian culture and teaches you a lot about it. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I really enjoyed this! I'm glad I went into this not thinking it was a straightforward romance because that's not what this is at all. While I definitely loved the relationship between Rachel and Nicholas, it's much more complicated than that and covers a vast variety of topics. Rachel, Nicholas, Astrid and Colin were my favourites, but I absolutely loathed Eddie and Bernard. God they were douchebags. While I live in a city that is predominately East (and South) Asian and thought I knew a lot about the cultures from friends and colleagues, there are so many more intricacies that I was unaware of. It makes me want to learn more because there is so much out there from the bubble I live in. I'm excited to read the next books in the series and I'm absolutely stoked to see the movie!
Date published: 2018-08-23
Rated 4 out of 5 by from So much fun. I read this because I knew the movie was coming out... and I was not disappointed. Loved the range of characters that Kevin Kwan created (and wow, he is able to get inside the head of a range of characters!). Loved the footnotes that both enrich and entertain the reader. I consumed this book, and then went out and bought the sequel and was equally entertained. I just hope they make the next two books into movies too!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVED IT! I bought this just before the movie came out and was not disappointed! The book is written from an omniscient perspective and follows multiple story lines so you will never be bored. If you're looking for a book full of romance and drama, look no further!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Exaggeration, but Insightful My parents immigrated from China before I was born, and raised me in a predominately white, small town in southern Ontario. I had very little exposure to my own culture, and I thought my family was strange in comparison to those of my friends. But since moving to Toronto, I have a better understanding that my family is a typical Chinese family. Reading Crazy Rich Asians was eye-opening read for me. I acknowledge that all the characters' mannerism and actions are exaggerated (unless I just haven't been exposed to people like those in the book), but they are also very insightful of Chinese culture --- of how my family think, believe, and behave. It's nice to finally have a popular novel that's both funny and real to me, and I've recommended it to all my cousins.
Date published: 2018-08-11
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy read I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book, but I thought it would be a good easy read. I couldn't put it down! It's a part of a trilogy but the author did a great job of ending the book in a way you are curious to read the next one but you can also read just this one and be done. He does a great job of keeping it realistic but also explaining to the reader certain words or foods that the reader might not know.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was a great book When reading this I loved how I could relate to Rachel and her life with my mom being an asian immigrant and there were little sayings in Chinese that I knew so it helped enhance my reading experience.

Date published: 2018-08-07
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun and exciting read A nice, easy read which I would highly recommend for a vacation or a relaxing weekend. It has a lovely story, which is very funny and dramatic. Also gives a nice look at Asian culture and tradition.
Date published: 2018-08-07
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Juicy Read but Lacking in... This book touches on so many Asian American issues like the economic differences that we as race face within itself in such a fun and gripping way. The only problem (and the reason for such a low rating) is that characters seem to be very shallowly written. Just because characters are superficial. doesn't mean that they should be written that way. Kwan writes about a LOT of characters and I think because of the scale of it all the author gets lost in how to convey depth so characters end up being very 2D. In the entire series I only really cared about Rachel, Nick, and Aubrey as they have the most character development and interesting plots.
Date published: 2018-08-06
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Funny! This was fun! Lots of characters, but it was just a very fun read in general
Date published: 2018-08-05
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light hearted summer read This book was fun to read, though it did drag on a little too much... One of my issues with this book is that it had so many characters, I kept forgetting who was who, keeping up with many characters is not an issue for me when the characters are explained well and are significant, but here there were a ton of characters for the sake of having a ton of characters. Another thing that bothered me was that it would shift perspectives in a character's chapter ie if I am reading a chapter in Rachel's pov in the middle of the chapter it would randomly switch pov to another character very drastically, it was weird... It was an alright read, definitely a fun summer read
Date published: 2018-08-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Summer Read I ordered this impulsively online! The storyline was great. I also loved the mixture of characters the book had. Great summer read. Looking forward to the movie.

Date published: 2018-08-01
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy read with some funny moments I picked up this book months ago because I was curious about the buzz around the movie. It's one of the rare occasions in which I think maybe the movie will be better. The pacing of the book was a bit slow to start and I couldn't connect with the main character right away BUT the author makes up for it with his supporting characters! The main character encounters a vibrant line-up of characters that kept me entertained. Kevin Kwan did organized the different story lines well and some of them felt like friends of mine. It's certainly not the Great American Novel or the next YA fad, but it's a fun read nonetheless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hilarious Read I've had this book for awhile, but waited to read it. I'm so glad I did. Witty drama, hilarious writing and even funnier footnotes. There are so many characters and levels to the story, but the author did an amazing job at organizing it all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Must read I had heard super good things about this book, and really wanted to read it, I was happily surprised with this author! It was a new character dynamic, I loved it. The only little thing with this book is that its not just the story of two people, its about multiple people, and every chapter brings on a new character.
Date published: 2018-07-30
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, not Great I enjoyed this book well enough, but it definitely didn't blow me away. When the sequels came out, I didn't feel any need to read them, although now that they're making this a movie, I may give them a try.
Date published: 2018-07-29
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hilarious read Keeps you on your toes kind of book. The footnotes are both informative and hilarious. Coming from an Asian background makes a lot of the traditions and rules very relatable. Descriptive words paint a beautiful picture of each and every setting, character, and scene

Rated 5 out of 5 by from About time I may not be a mainland or Singaporean Asian but I am a western Asian and for me this book was great. Definitely enjoyable for me and it's about time there was a mainstream book that is fun, scandalous and easy to digest. Loved it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It was okay I just finished this book ...I have had the book for a while and DFN-ed it for some time before finishing it. Not a page turner for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's fine to pass the time I got suckered into reading this book by a friend who never tailors her recommendations. It's fine. The love story is compelling, and the relationships between the characters are deep and rich. The dialogue is terrible for the most part. There are many instances of the writer trying to write "young" and using vernacular phrases that were not popular with people in that age bracket at that time. The focus on material items is tedious and monotonous. You'll find yourself slogging through pages of insipid name dropping and information about clothing, watches, cars, etc. I had to remind myself that this book was written in the mind set of billionaires, and these are the details that probably are important to a different class of people but it does become boring at times. Many of the characters motivations are highly unrelateable, but I am led to understand that some of the family dynamics are quite accurate. It's a perfectly acceptable way to kill some time and by no means is a book I regret having purchased. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from easy summer read but a bit sterotypical and not the best writing good for killling time but not for anything of substance. good that it's repping asian but hopefully not in a negative light.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not my favourite I started this book and didn't even get to the half way point. too many characters and too much flipping and flopping between the characters that it got confusing....not my favourite book at all

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little tough to get into but good overall There are a lot of characters to wrap your head around, and a little too much detail on clothing and furniture, but overall a nice read. The two main story plots had nice little twists and I loved how Singaporean/Chinese culture (e.g., language, food, mannerisms) were thrown in there with footnotes. #plumreview

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun Summer Read This book was very entertaining! I flew through it in a few days and could not put it down. I also found it incredibly well written, which is a plus as I find that other authors in this genre do not put in the same effort. Overall, this was a great book

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Summer Read Very cute story! I have to admit that all the characters were quite confusing at times and the big family secret at the end was somewhat easy to guess. A very nice summer read with lots of insights on the life of Singapore's rich. I typically read teen books, but this was a nice introduction to adult fiction books. *I am an Indigo employee however, it does not bias my opinion in any way*

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read! Being Asian myself, I could relate to some of the things in this novel. I loved the story and detail in the writing. It was warm, funny, romantic, and fun (like the perfect boyfriend). I can't wait to see the film adaptation and read the subsequent novels!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Predictably good 3.5 stars: It was a good read but it was really hard to initially get into. There are so many names and references in the beginning to keep track of I had to re-read it (and admittedly, has to refer back to a few times). It grips you with the gossip and the lavish settings and insights into the elite. But the overall plot was predictable (as it should be for the type of story it is). I've gone on to read the second in the series and started the third. Overall the first one is the best in my opinion this far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SO Addicting!! I was at the theatres and I saw the trailer for the movie adpation and once I got home I knew I had to order the book and give it a read, needless to say I could not put the book down! I finished it that same day and I was so incredibly entertained. It's easily one of the best, most light-hearted and entertaining books I've read in a while! I would give this a million stars if I could!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It was good but typical I picked this book up because my friends were all reading it. If you read the A-List, this book has a similar plot. The book was slow to start to build up character but towards the end I found myself unable to put the book down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am obsessed Upon receiving a stellar recommendation from a friend and seeing the totally enticing trailer for the upcoming movie, I decided to start the book. Turns out it is one of the best series that I have ever read and I tore through the trilogy in a week! Jaw dropping, sassy, and thought-provoking all in one. I'm praying to Kevin Kwan to throw a fourth book to all the readers who are as hungry for more as I am!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review on GR! Mini review: GR Ultimate Summer Reading Challenge: Read the World Trigger warning: Mention of kidnapping and abuse. I didn't know much about this book save it becoming a movie. When I saw the trailer I was hooked! I listened to the audiobook sample it sealed the deal! I am happy to say that I enjoyed this! Rachel and Nick have been dating for two years. Nick asks Rachel to come with him to Singapore for his best friend's wedding. Rachel agrees. Little does she know that Nick is one apart of the one of the richest families in Singapore and what exactly this trip entails for her. I had such a blast listening to this book! Crazy Rich Asian's is what you would expect shows like Gossip Girl to be. The difference here is that Crazy Rich Asian's is much better. The culture was so much fun to read about! I enjoyed the site seeing and the mention of food. I loved Rachel! She was so sweet and down to earth. While also being intelligent. Nick isn't you're stereotypical new adult/adult love interest. I found him to be genuine. And if he ever hurt Rachel it wasn't romanticized. Their relationship was fun to read about! The antics that some of Nick's family members pull was hilarious! Yes it was utterly ridiculous the length's Nick's mother went to find out info about Rachel. Yet it was such a blast to read. There are multiple point of views. You don't just follow Rachel and Nick. Which I felt added to the experience. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed Crazy Rich Asian's! I will definitely be continuing the series. I highly recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wished it was better Copied and pasted from my goodreads account because I couldn't have expressed my disappointment in this book any other way. I picked up the book because 1.) I've heard about it for years 2.) it's one of the few mainstream books with an all-Asian cast in a contemporary setting, and 3.) I love Constance Wu who will be the main lead in the movie adaptation. However, Crazy Rich Asians has more dangling plot lines, poor pacing, parades of useless characters, awkward dialogue, and an unsatisfying/weird ending than Tommy Wiseau's The Room. I shouldn't even compare Crazy Rich Asians to The Room, which is at least so-bad-it's-good. I basically powered through this thing because of Asian solidarity but, man, it was so bad. This book should have been streamlined. There is no reason for it to be 527 pages. The description of the book states how Rachel Chu, a New Yorker, is in the surprise of her life when she discovers her partner, Nick Young, and his family live extravagant lives back in Singapore. I was expecting the story to follow Rachel (the fish out of water that the audience could relate to), Eleanor (Nick's judgemental and traditional mom who doesn't approve of her son's choice in women), and possibly Nick and his close cousin Astrid (who would be on Nick and Rachel's team while they navigate Singapore's rich elite). Instead we got an endless amount of perspectives from all of these random, unimportant characters with their own useless subplots that did nothing to move the story along or even conclude. I was hoping to see how Rachel and Astrid would interact in Singapore but Astrid was dealing with her husband's affair, who wasn't even cheating on her. He was just some coward who was too intimidated by Astrid's looks, money, and family to realize that she loved him. This dragged out subplot ended when one of Astrid's exes told her to wait it out because her husband would surely come running back once he realized that he was too used to married life with a beautiful, rich woman to ever return to civilian life. Like wow, that's so assuring. The book constantly introduces characters that like Rachel, bond with her, but then disappear a chapter later or never talk to her again and I don't understand what the point was. Rachel and Eleanor don't even meet until page 316, which is over half of this bloated book. We don't even get to Colin's wedding, the whole reason why Rachel and Nick are in Singapore by the way, until page 359. Instead we get endless descriptions of brand names, companies, titles, and designers. I actually skipped entire pages because it was nothing but names that didn't add anything to the story. I understand this is a book about rich people who spend money on expensive and luxurious things but I wish Kevin Kwan spent as much time crafting his book as he did name-dropping every fashion designer possible. Just because characters are rich doesn't mean they're one-dimensional but these characters were awful. They were so hollow. The book makes you naturally root for Rachel but eventually I didn't care what happened to her either at the end. She got so angry because some girls were rubbing in her face that they once had sex with Nick, which is awkward and uncomfortable, but she was ready to break up with him for it. The things those rich socialites put Rachel through wasn't even that bad. Yes, putting dead fish organs in her bag was mean but that was kinda it. What Eleanor did by airing out Rachel's family history was rude and invasive but everything else that the other characters dished out could have been easily ignored. I honestly feel like I wasted my time and I only wished I could have DNF-ed this book. Or at least know to skip all of the chapters that weren't labelled Rachel, Nick, or Eleanor.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great read I really enjoyed this book and gave me the desire to go to Singapore. Nice easy read. I gave 4 stars only because the author introduces too many characters at once so it gets confusing at the beginning. Takes a while to understand all the relationships. He also uses a lot of Asian slang so have to look up what it means.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this book! Growing up, there were only a handful of stock media representations of Asians, my ethnic group. Crazy Rich Asians portrayal of Asian culture is so truthful. It is done in such a fun way. I bought the book because a friend recommended it and I am glad I did. Theres nothing like this out there. I highly recommend reading this if you haven't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the hype I LOVE this series. I was so drawn into the story because there is so much truth in how Kwan portrays the Asian culture. Nick's family is a riot! Very funny story with lots of over-the-top characters. I can't wait to see the movie adaption.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from amazing book This is such an amazing book! I was looking forward to it because I heard about it through the promotions for the movie (all Asian cast!!) and decided to read the actual books themselves. Rated 4 out of 5 by from As funny as the other two This is the first of the three books, but the second I read. As funny, and witty as the other two. The family chart in the front of the book is essential to understand the family connections. I gained much insight in a culture that is exotic to me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An average easy read It was moderately entertaining, and an easy read. Character development wasn't as scandalous or as deep as I would have liked. That said, very happy to see a bit more diversity of authors and characters making it to top sellers. I like it enough to want to read the others in the series, but probably won't read this one a second time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fun read I really enjoyed the story, though it followed a tried and true path that similar stories take without any new curve balls. Despite this the plot was great and kept me reading the book. The writing was really great, though over time I was getting thrown off by the Chinese words inserted into the story (they are explained the first time but I couldn't remember what past defined words meant). The characters and drama was deliciously terrible and juicy. I both loved and disliked Nick. He was so clueless about certain things. It was interesting to see the dynamics of the characters in how they interacted with each other and the dynamics between different Asian cultures. You can tell the Kwan really knows his stuff. Overall I was surprised at how fun I found this book and how much I really enjoyed reading the story.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good read although it resembles the same base story of "fifty shades of gray" - rich man, meets beautiful woman, and go through a lot of drama before ending happily ever after- or Cinderella; it was a refreshing read because this time it didn't involve the sick kinky "hobbies" that Mr Gray had. Plus the old ladies, in the book are really funny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely an unexpected ending! I would actually give this three and a half stars. When I first started this book I was super excited! It was fun, funny, and I found myself cheering for the main couple instead of finding them annoying. I really had no idea how the book was going to end. I also loved the subplots, I was engrossed in all of them. With that being said, I did not care for part 2. Part 2 felt like it was mostly filler and there were many parts that I didn't feel were relevant, there was also a lot of awkward parts. I was pulled back into the story when I reached part 3, though. The story began to unravel, and there were many plot twists that I was no expecting! the book did end up leaving me with a lot of unanswered questions, but I guess those can be saved for the sequal.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Entertaining Wouldn't say this is a great book, but it is amusing. Took me a few chapters to get into it, it was a bit 'much' the way everything (mainly brands, clothing, jewelry, decadence) is described in so much detail, but I guess that's the point. Did not find it that well written.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Favourite Reading this book felt like watching one of those fantastic rom coms that you want to watch whenever you're feeling down, since they always help lifting you up. Crazy Rich Asians is the perfect summer read, and it gets you hooked as early on as the prologue. Bubbly like champagne, it also addresses hard hitting subjects like racism and classism, whilst still remaining light and extremely funny. I'm honestly having difficulty writing a good review due to how much I loved this book. It was like candy, and I can't recommend it enough to everyone and their mother. (Appropriately enough, my mother also adored this book.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from epitome of a crazy rich asian. Kevin Kwan really nails it - this is one of the most entertain books i had read. i remember bringing with me as a beach read and told myself i'd come home for the second book. two days in i regretted not bringing the sequel with me. one may think that he's exaggerating the scenarios and the extend to which the 1% spends their time and money - but i can confirm, he has not. he truly grasp how the 1% live within Asia, i probably haven't laughed more reading a book. i don't really want to go into details and ruin the book, as i'm sure there's hundreds of reviews out there. but you if are Asian or wish to learn more about the 1% of the rich Asians, all while being entertained, this book is a MUST. the book is now being produced into a film, i am eager and nervous to see if it will live up to the book and how they will bring the extravaganza onto the big screen!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ALAMAK I was absolutely addicted to this book! Kevin Kwan you genius entertaining son of a gun! Amazing story! Amazing characters! To be honest I was a little overwhelmed with how big the cast was in the first few chapters then I realized... It wouldn't be a truly Asian book with that much family members to intro to people.

Editorial Reviews

Praise for Crazy Rich Asians: • "Over-the-top funny and a novelty to boot. . . . Kwan delivers nonstop hoots about a whole new breed of rich, vulgar, brand-name-dropping conspicuous consumers, with its own delicacies, curses, vices, stereotypes and acronyms." --Janet Maslin, The New York Times • "Crazy Rich Asians is like Dynasty on steroids with more private jets, bigger houses, and a lot more money. It is the very definition of a beach read. I finished it over a weekend and by the end was longing to see the ridiculously extravagant and over-the-top world that Mr. Kwan had created." --Michael Carl, Vanity Fair
