An exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption inspired by the classic fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood,” from the author of Cruel Beauty.

When Rachelle was fifteen she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village. But she was also reckless—straying from the forest path in pursuit of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in a vain effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her hunt for the legendary sword that might save their world. Together, they navigate the opulent world of the courtly elite, where beauty and power reign and no one can be trusted. And as they become unexpected allies, they discover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. Within a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An interesting take on a classic fairy tale An interesting take on the classic fairy tale 'Little Red Riding Hood,' (actually, it reads more like a loose interpretation). A bit dark at time, in a poetic, imaginative way. It was interesting but I wouldn't read it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Enjoyed it Unlike most people, I actually liked this much better than Cruel Beauty. Protagonist was independent and strong.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't Like It This was a poor follow up to a mediocre book.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Crimson Bound An interesting read. However, I can't really pick out the part that are similar to little red ridding hood, well, maybe except for the forest. This book is basically talking about a girl that is trying to save the word form being controlled by this forest guy, and how she finds her true self while doing that. If you liked curl beauty, deferentially give this book a try. However, I must say that I liked curl beauty a lot better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from And she does it again After reading Cruel Beauty and loving it I couldn't wait to pick up the second book by Rosamund Hodge. This tale is every bit as invigorating as the last one. The world draws you in and you fall in love with the characters and storyline. Next up: Bright Smoke, Cold Fire!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As good as Cruel Beauty Every bit as good as Cruel Beauty. Hodge's ability to blend fairytale and mythology is amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just as Dark This book was amazing, just as great as Hodge's Cruel Beauty. It was as dark and enticing and the main character was a breath of fresh air in comparison to the typical beautiful, unselfish YA females.
