Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Essential Metallic Book If it wasn't for the recent Indigo "Buy 3 & Get the 4th Free" promotion, I don't think I would of picked up "Dark Knights Rising". I have to say these individual stories of the nightmarish Batmen is indeed great background material for the main story arc. It is difficult to determine which of these Batmen are my favourite, however each one revealed a unique perspective ..... as sort of amalgamation between Batman & one of the Justice Leaguers. Well worth the read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Essential Tie-In to Metal This volume collects the one-shots that are the backstories to all the Batmen from the Dark Universe. One or two are not as compelling, but on the whole, each one-shot is fascinating and adds depth to the entire Metal event. The One Who Laughs is particularly disturbing, and interesting. This volume should be read alongside the Metal and The Resistance storylines.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun tie ins Fun tie ins with Metal to show the different "Batmen." A lot of them are pretty similar in format, so it can be weird to read them all in a row.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Batmen! Read most of these as individual issues. Great takes on evil Batmen, ties into epic metal!

Editorial Reviews

Praise for Dark Nights: Metal:"Where nightmares and reality collide." --Washington Post"A celebration of the wackiest, craziest, most outright fun elements of the DC Universe." --Entertainment Weekly"Very aptly named, packed as it is with both real steel and rock 'n roll. The series was forged with the spirit of the Jack Kirby, the original master of crafting a story full of mind-blowing ideas." --SYFY Wire"Big, bananas, crazy fun." --Nerdist"A big, crazy story--a story that feels like going to a huge rock concert." --Polygon"An awesome blend of bombastic action and vast cosmic conspiracies." --IGN"This comics team [of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo]is the real dynamic duo...definitely enjoyable, even to the casual comic fan. You can follow the story well enough, but this team is also packing in years and years of Batman backstory." --Mashable
