about

Nia Washington is an incredibly talented ballerina. She fought her way up from the streets and was nearing the pinnacle of her profession when an injury and a broken heart derailed her career. Taking a temporary job at an elite boarding school was supposed to give her time to nurse both body and soul. It was supposed to be a safe place to launch a triumphant comeback. It is anything but.Shortly after she arrives at the beautiful lakeside campus, she discovers the body of a murdered student, and her life takes a truly dark turn. It's not long before she is drawn into a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse with a ruthless killer. And Nia isn't the only target. She must use all of her street smarts to protect her dancers, save a wrongfully accused student, and rescue the man she loves.A stunning and suspenseful tale of passion and betrayal, Cate Holahan's Dark Turns will take readers deep into the mind of a murderer and the woman who must put an end to the killing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from How well do you know your neighbours? After dropping off their kids at summer camp 3 couples decide on some adult time. They rent a beautiful house on a private beach, expecting nothing but wine, dinners and sunsets. But when Rachel is found dead on the beach town detective Gabby Watkins must wade through all the lies and deceptions to get to the truth of what really happened to Rachel, and of the 5 people remaining is responsible. Told from alternating perspective this novel is a great rollercoaster ride. It kept me engrossed and entertained throughout. Thank you to Netgalley, Cate Holahan and Crooked Lane Books for a gifted e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Friends or enemies? One Little Secret by Cate Holahan is a mystery that literally takes place in a glass house where there are plenty of stones being thrown. Three couples leave the city to spend a child-free week together at a beach house. The six friends, while relaxing and over-enjoying drinks, begin to reveal secrets which include adultery, spousal abuse, lawsuits, etc. By the next morning, one of them is found dead on the beach and the remaining five are pointing fingers at each other. Gabby Watkins is the detective assigned to the case. She soon finds that any of them had a reason to commit this murder. One by one are interviewed and later released. Who is the killer? And why was the victim murdered? I recommend this novel to readers who like to be kept guessing until the end. Nothing is as it seems. This is my first Cate Holahan mystery but I look forward to reading all of her books. Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

One Little Secret follows three couples on vacation in the Hamptons as their deepest and darkest secrets are revealed, ultimately ending with the murder of one of the group. Lots of twists and turns and interconnections between the couples, detectives and locals give the story richness and keep you guessing how everything will tie together at the end. A great read for fans of fans of Big Little Lies and The Party. I look forward to reading more of Cate Holahan's books.
