Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Sequel. I liked a lot of this one better than the first. The tone was still the same but much more action packed. #plumreview

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dramatic Sequel Is Bloody And Violent This novel didn't thrill me as much as the first, Daughter Of Smoke And Bone, did. I found this book to be very violent, almost too bloody at times, and without the same amount of action and romance that the first book boasted. I was very excited to continue with this trilogy, but this book has somewhat dampened my excitement. I will be reading the third and final book, with my fingers crossed for a satisfying, less violent ending.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4.7 out of 5 Stars! 4.7 out of 5 stars! The sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone was totally not what I was expecting! It was great as we got to learn more about the war in Eretz and the process of resurrection done by Karou. Things are quite different than they were in the first book. Though it started out a bit sad, it totally picked up when Zuzana and Mike showed up! Looking forward to the third book. #plumreview

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good sequel This wasn't as good as the first book, but nearing the end I got really into it and sped through the rest. I'm so interested to read more about Ziri.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So Beautiful I did enjoy the first book a little more, but this book was still really god, and it introduced one of my new favourite characters: Ziri. His story was heartbreaking, and I hope he gets the happy ending he deserves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A fantastic, dark sequel! I've read some reviews that say this book is not as good as the first but it is! The second book is much darker than the first but unlike some other authors Taylor does not shy away from or try to gloss over the darkness in the world she created and it makes for a fantastic read.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liraz is acetastic Liraz is the first asexual character i've come across in [a mainstream] YA which is so awesome i love her!! Besides Liraz though, everything else was great! I didn't care much for Akiva still but whatever. Book two is a LOT lighter on the romance which i really didn't like in book one so I liked this one a lot more!

Editorial Reviews

"It is written masterfully and filled with poetic lyricism that tricks you into believing you are reading a classic. The book is melancholy and the pain of the characters is so etched into the pages that after you put the book down you find yourself hovering in dark corners, muttering to yourself about the cruelty of the world. But don't let that put you off from reading what will become a classic in literature in the decades to come, for sure. I am eagerly awaiting book three. Mrs Taylor! Bring it on!"-Fantasy Book Review
