Rated 3 out of 5 by from Different but Enjoyable. When I started this book I did not know if I would enjoy it because of the way it was written with each chapter being about different characters and they did not connect to each other. But when they did start to blend and come together, I started enjoying it more and more. Had a hard time putting it down at times. It is a LONG read for sure and that may turn some readers away but I think it was worth it. I did find it a bit confusing when he was talking about where the flight was travelling when he was speaking about Moose Jaw and then into the States and back to Canada??? Kinda lost me there. I do not recall reading any other Clancy novels so can not compare. I do know that I would read other of his work. I would tell my friends about this book, definitely. .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, not great Not bad bit terrorists are kind of tame compared to the bad guys in the old Clancy novels. Never thought I'd say this but I miss the Russians.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clancy picks a lousy co/ghost writer. Where has his integrity gone? I was very sorry (I even tossed the book away in disgust for a short while!) that Clancy has lent his name to a co-writer that doesn't do his homework. I always thought of Tom Clancy as a writer who did proper research and who was therefore credible. In this case, he makes several pathetic errors related to the aircraft that he inserts into the storyline. They are very flagrant to anyone who knows anything about radar, air traffic control, search and rescue and flight planning. I am left wondering how incredible his other work is when this section is so flagrantly wrong! It's like finding out that the Easter Bunny doesn't exist. Tom Clancy, I'm sorry but you will not sell me any more books. You should have stayed solo instead of selling your name to hacks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clancy returns with hard hitting thriller It has been seven years since Tom Clancy's last novel, and even longer since his last good novel. However, "Dead or Alive" is reminiscent of Clancy's earlier books like "Patriot Games" and "The Hunt for Red October". In this latest offering, Clancy slowly exposes the many threads that eventually come together to reveal the terrorist plot and the American plan of action to stop it. While there were some unnecessary passages, and a less than enthusiastic return to politics by Jack Ryan Sr, "Dead or Alive" crackled along at a great rate. Clancy even ramped up the action scenes, and, without trying to ruin it for everyone, killed off a character from previous novels. Here's hoping, on behalf of all the long suffering Tom Clancy fans, that the master is back to stay, and that we won't have to wait another seven years for the next book.
