Features a special preview of J. R. Ward’s upcoming Black Dagger Brotherhood novel, The Thief!

The last place Ivie expects to be approached by a devastatingly handsome male is in a crowded, smoky cigar bar rarely frequented by vampires—yet here he stands. Silas is flirtatious, gallant, and, above all, mysterious. Ivie is anything but. A nurse at the healer’s clinic and the daughter of a biker, Ivie is accustomed to speaking her mind. So she does. Since aristocrats rarely pick up females of her class, Ivie asks Silas just what kind of game he thinks he’s playing.

Despite her guarded exterior, Ivie surrenders to the fierce desire she feels for Silas. And yet, just as their courtship is heating up, he reveals that it cannot last, for he is bound to return to the Old Country. Their bond only deepens as they make the most of their precious time together. But when she learns the truth, Ivie must find a saving grace—before all is lost. . . .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from "Dearest Ivie" by J.R. Ward. Book 15.5 in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series...sort of. I just finished reading this book April 05, 2018. This is my review. Yes, yes, this novella is labelled 15.5 in the BDB series, but if you've never read the series, you can absolutely read this novella as a stand alone. The story takes place in the BDB world, and some characters make a surprise cameo, but it's about two whole new and "separate from the Brotherhood" characters. So this novella is about two vampires named Silas and Ivie. Gosh it's so hard to say what this novella is about without telling you what the story line is. Here's a very general overview: Ivie is a nurse in Havers's clinic and is about 20 years past her transition (becoming a full vampire) whereas Silas is a vampire in his 300s, is rich and part of the glymeara (aristocratic vampires). They fall in lust at first sight...at least Silas does...Ivie is more skeptical when they meet. How can someone from the glymeara even consider going out with her? Their stations in life are just too different. And hence begins the romance of Ivie and Silas. There's a lot more than that to the story but if I told you, I'd ruin the whole thing. At first, Ivie came off as a little too "know it all" to me. I found her character a little abrasive. But as the story continues and their relationship evolves, her character became a lot more likable to me. I liked Silas's character immediately, although he doesn't do a lot of talking until about half-way through. I wish the story was longer, just to make their romance longer, and draw out the "meat" of their romance. This being a novella, obviously, their romance is fast. The...oh how shall I say without giving stuff away..."big obstacle" in their relationship comes fast in this story and it quite heartbreaking, really. The story moves quickly and is very well written. As in any J.R Ward book, a lot of colloquialisms are used and can (at times) slow your reading, just to make sure you're reading the sentence properly. Overall, I liked this novella in the BDB world. Short, sweat and to the point. I hope there are more novellas coming in the BDB world. I would definitely read them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from quick and emotional read DEAREST IVIE by JR Ward is a novella set in the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood focusing on aristocratic vampire Silas, and nurse Ivie, who works for Havers at his clinic. Told from third person perspective (Ivie) DEAREST IVIE follows the building relationship between an old country vampire Silas, a member of the aristocrat, and Ivie, a young nurse struggling from pay cheque to pay cheque. When a recent job interview found our heroine unacceptable due to her age, Ivie and her best friend Rubes spend a night on the town where Ivie will meet her future, a future with an end date that Ivie knows nothing about. Enter Silas, a well-to-do vampire aristocrat whose attraction to Ivie is swift and powerful. DEAREST IVIE is a quick read; an emotional but predictable story line about opposites attract that reveals some of the struggles and disparity between the have and the have nots. The interaction with the BDB is negligible except for the mention of the King. The secondary and supporting characters are familiar with the inclusion of Havers, Doc Jane and Ruhn. We are introduced to Silas’s majordomo Pritchard, Ivie’s father Hirah-a tattooed vampire biker, and of course Ivie’s bestie and fellow nurse Rubia aka Rubes. JR Ward leaves a few open ended plot points including Silas’ hunt for his missing brother, as well as the potential for a story line for Ivie’s best friend Rubes. The premise is sweet, heart breaking and emotional; the romance is quick and intense; the characters are colorful and charismatic.
