Now everyone's favorite library cat can inspire a new audience of young readers with his story of courage and love. Like the hardcover, this paperback edition of the middle-grade adaptation ofNew York TimesbestsellerDeweyfeatures an 8-page photo insert of the Dew!

In the tradition ofMarley: A Dog Like No Other, this is the story of a cat who was more than a pet, and the amazing effect he had on the people around him. Abandoned in a library book drop slot in the dead of winter, this remarkable kitten miraculously endured the coldest night of the year. Dewey Readmore Books, as he became known, quickly embraced his home inside Spencer's public library, charming the struggling small town's library-goers, young and old. As word of Dewey's winning tail, or rather his tale, spread, the library cat gained worldwide fame as a symbol of hope and proof positive that one small cat could change a town, one reader at a time.
Vicki Myron, the former director of the Spencer (Iowa) Public Library, spent nineteen years with the real Dewey Readmore Books, who she rescued from the library's book return drop on a freezing winter morning. Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 Stars I read this book multiple times in my high school library. Every time I fell in love with Dewey and cried when it was time to let him go. This is a perfect book for cat lovers and book lovers. Cats and books just fit so perfectly together and Dewey will inspire you to go to your local library and spend some time there. Maybe even get a cat of your own to cuddle with while you enjoy a nice book! Dewey was truly a very special cat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my Top Ten Non-Fiction Reads for 2011 A younger readers' adaptation of the NYT bestseller, Dewey. And, hands down, this is #1 on my Teens'/Younger Readers' Top Ten Non-Fiction reads for 2011. Anyone who has ever had an animal companion will smile, laugh, cry - sometimes all at the same time. I finished reading this 1 week to the day that we had to put to sleep our 19 yr. old Robt. Browning (cat), who was about 97 [in human yrs - 19 in cat years!] - I couldn't have found a better read! "Bob" had also helped me w/the "varmit" problem in our high school library...he loved coming to work w/me the odd day. That aside, this is a truly great read for both children & adults - and one that should not be missed. Keep the tissues handy. My copy is now on its way to an out-of-the-way northern library which also has a cat... BTW: grand-daughter rated at 10+, but should be read by everyone, no matter the age...
