Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great story that anyone will love This book tells the story of Dewey, a cat adopted by a small town library in Iowa. It follows the life of Dewey over the years, examining how he had a positive impact on the society, and how he helped the people around him. I found this story very enjoyable to read, as you not only get to follow Dewey from a kitten to an old-man cat, but you follow the life of his owner. It is a heartwarming story, that anyone will like. Most importantly it is a reminder of just how unique animals can be and what type of impact they have on our lives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I loved the book! 4.75 stars In January, 1988, a tiny long-haired orange kitten was found, freezing, in the book drop at the Spencer Public Library in Spencer, Iowa. The library director, Vicki Myron, decided to take care of the kitten, and have him live in the library. Dewey was a perfect library cat, who adored people! He lived at the Spencer Public Library for 19 years. This is his story. I am a librarian and a cat person. I loved the book! Dewey is absolutely adorable! In addition to the stories surrounding Dewey, the author also includes information about her own life, as well as about the farming community of Spencer, Iowa. I grew up in a small town on the Canadian prairies, so I actually found it kind of interesting and could relate. And because I like reading biographies, I was o.k. with Myron’s story, as well. I didn’t find those parts quite as interesting as the stories about Dewey, however, which is why I’ve docked it the ¼ star.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Purrrrrrfect companion Dewey, There's a cat in the Library, is a lovely companion piece to the original Dewey, the small-town library cat who touched the World. The illustrations and text create a warmth that makes the reader connect with this wonderful kitty who with his feline powers of purrrrsuasion made daily life a little more brighter. The book is wonderful to read out loud with catchy phrases like "Wowzy Whiskers" or "Hooey Doowey Yooks". I'm sure this will become a classic which cat and book lovers will treasure for years.
