Rated 5 out of 5 by from Diary of a Wimpy Kid #8 - Hard Luck "As awesome as all the others." - Dad. "The book was very funny. Greg shrunk people's heads and the poor Magic 8 ball broke. That was the worst part. It was funny (and mean), when Fregley threw books at the Mingo kids to distract them." - Liam (almost 8) "Rowley and Abigail broke up! (Spoiler). The Mingo kids chased Rowley and Greg." - Jamie (5).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great book! Hi! Diary of a wimpy kid hard luck has to be my favourite Diary of a wimpy kid yet! Every page in the book is very relatable and hilarious for children 8-12 years old. What I like about these books is that the characters always stay the same and every book new characters get added, like in this book some more of Greg's aunts and uncles got added. Also I like the fact that you can read the books at random, because there is not a huge storyline on the series like Twilight or The hunger games, there is some what of a storyline from the last book and this one. What I also like about this book is that it teaches a lot of life lessons about friendship and family, but in a fun way! The book is very well written, and feels as if a child was writing from his point of view and the font looks as if you're looking into someones diary. The illustrations are detailed, small and very funny. The events that take place in this book are very interesting and you can't stop reading until you're finished, thats a guarantee! The books is not very long, neither take much time to read. This book is wonderful! I recommend this book and all of the other books in this series. Jeff Kiney is an amazing author.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A winner for sure Greg Heffley is in middle school and things aren't going so well for him.  You see that's just about the time when girl's turn from a "Yewww girl's"  to an "Ahhhhhh" check HER out event.  His best friend Rowley Jefferson is smitten by Abigail Brown and he dumps Greg to pursue her, leaving Greg all alone, friendless, and out in the cold.  Greg has to restructure his life without his best friend and that is a very difficult thing to do when you are in middle school.  He tries many ways to gain new friends but none are successful, it's just not the same without Rowley.  He discovers a secret weapon, a magic eight ball, that eases some of his anxiety for a while and helps him make decisions about the issues that are happening in his life. He then decides to cast his fate to the wind and leave everything to chance.  Does his luck turn around and his life become bearable, and more normal again?  Will Rowley reconsider and he and Greg hook up and be buddies once again?   I know you will love this book and laugh out loud as you follow this wimpy kid's adventures one more time.  It is a winner for sure, another one. Way to go Jeff!!! Jeff has done it again with his amazing cartoon pictures that enhance and bring the meaning of his witty text home.  The book deals with fame, acceptance, friendship rivalry, girls and school.  Just the perfect topics for kids ages 8-12.  Many grown-ups are faithful followers of the books too, I may add.  Jeff takes an ordinary kid, with ordinary experiences and captivates a diverse audience with his brilliant storytelling wrapped in wit and humour that kids of all ages can relate to.  I think it is the best book of the series yet.  Perfect for gift giving.
